Hello Everybody,
I've always wanted an Amex card. Ever since I was a kid, seeing the commercials with the iconic green card, made me think you would make it if you had that card. My credit has not been the greatest for years but I have been slowly building it up. I currently have quicksilver and a savor. The Quicksilver card was the first card I was approved for ($350 spending limit) after I began raising my score. A couple of years later, that spending limit has increased to $5k and Savor has a spending limit of $3k. I am more than happy with those two cards, but I still wanted that Amex. I decided to go through the "Find The Right Card For You" process to see if I had a shot at one. A month ago, I tried to apply but my score was around 620 and they suggested only a Credit One Amex card. However, my credit score has improved to 679, so last night I decided to give it another shot, and somehow Amex approved me for the Hilton Honors card. It didn't say how much I was approved for but I created an Amex account and they approved me for $15k! I have no idea why they approved me for so much, especially after denying it not so long ago.
Now I do not plan on ever spending $15k, but how much should I spend monthly/yearly so they don't lower my limit? I am only going to use it on Hilton stays (my wife works for Hilton), gas, and groceries. I pay off all my cards monthly and never carry a balance. I never want to be put in the position again of being served by a lawsuit from a credit card company.
Congratulations on your approval! The Hilton Honors card is a much better card than the Credit One Amex. I would spend like you normally would and pay the card in full each month. That's a good starting limit from them.
Also, the Credit One Amex isn't a true Amex because it only runs on the Amex network, like some issuers run on the Visa or MC network.
Congrats!
Very nice SL, congratulations on your Amex approval!

1. Welcome to the forum.
2. Congratulations on getting the Amex Hilton Honors card. I have the same card, and it's great. I find the Hilton family of hotels to be perfect, and I love the free breakfasts.
3. I've had the card for around 9 years. My credit limit has usually been high, ranging from 25,000 to 34,000, and I have almost never spent even $1000 in a month; typically my spend is under $500, probably just $300 on average. And Amex has never complained. So you don't have to worry about the need to put any specific amount of spending on it.
4. After I had the card for awhile, they offered me a very attractive upgrade to the Surpass card, which I accepted. Then after I had that one for awhile, they offered me another very attractive upgrade to the Aspire, which I also accepted. Then after Covid hit and my travel was severely limited by that and other factors, I downgraded back to my original Honors card. I like all 3 cards but I found the Surpass gave me the most bang for the buck.

Congrats on your AMEX Hilton Honors approval

Congratulations on your Amex approval!
