June 2016 I got my first ever CLI ($500) from Target after 14 years. December 2016 I got my 2nd CLI ($1000). Just logged in to see if my statement had closed, and as fully expected... another $1000 CLI for June 2017, bringing me to a not-exactly-overwhelming $3300. My Target MasterCard is no longer my lowest credit line - congrats Kohl's, you're the new winner with your "You already have the maximum credit line that this account type allows." Stats: Squeaky clean long files (AAoA down to 8 years and change) but util in mid-20s which is a LOT of debt. FICO 08s are 735-745, actual W2 income in the 200s. Ran $200-600 monthly through it from Dec-May since the last CLI, always PIF and "updated" income to the same amount every month when paying the bill.
I'll just quote myself for the back-story:
Mine was opened in 2002 (can't remember who the original issuer was) with a $1200 SL when I had a very thin file. It changed to a Visa at some point soon after, then it became a Target Bank card around 2005 or so and I randomly had a CLD to $800 (no other AA on any of my other accounts, I have never been late on any credit accounts, FICO scores always in lower 700s). It changed from Visa to MasterCard at some point and from Target Bank to TD Bank, also. I just always assumed this would stay a $800 card, and I would just use it every now and then when going to Target for the 5% off. I started putting about $150-350 on it once a month back around April and PIF each month. Out of nowhere I got a CLI to $1300 on my June statement, and a CLI to $2300 on my December statement. I had seriously been thinking about cancelling it since the CL was just insulting, but always kept it for the AAoA and the few bucks off when I do go to Target. Hoping that they will at least keep this up every 6 months.
Closed mine years ago after being stuck at a whopping $250 for 3 years - I pretty much avoid using Target for anything due to the "value" they placed on my business.
Congrats Op, great CL - you obviously have lot more patience than me.
We also started with the Visa in 2010 as I remember. It started with a $2k CL, and over the years and the change over to Master Card, it is now at $9k. We have seen 2 auto-CLI's in the past year. I do keep our income current on the site.
We only use this card at Target, and it is always paid in full doe to the high APR.
Congrats on your CLI! It will be interesting to see how high they will take you.
Thanks everyone. I also only use it at Target (averaging about 1.5 $300 average trips per statement over the past year) since I would rather earn rewards with other cards and pay in full (I didn't always). Gotta love that 23.65% APR for everyone regardless of profile. As long as I see this every 6 months, I'll be content to wait it out another 15 years:
Congratulations! To show how much we appreciate the effort you put into keeping your account in good standing, we've raised your credit limit. Your new limit -- you can see it on this statement -- is in effect now, so you can start taking advantage of your new spending power right away. Thanks for using your REDcard!
The key to Target CLIs certainly seems to be some combination of moderate regular use, updating income monthly, paying in full, and the one absolute data point across the board is allowing balances to post on statements.
Indeed, a $9k Target card is like a Centurion card around here! LOL
Mine was originally a store card as that was all that they offered at the time, but if memory serves me correctly ALL cards got changed to a Visa card in 2003 or 2004 and they did not offer a store card for a while. Now of course the MasterCard version cannot be directly applied for. I am all good with store cards; I closed 5 or 6 over the past 18 months and may close my Kohl's since my wife also has a card.
