My credit scores have finally started increasing into the low 700s across the board with no baddies showing on any bureaus (YAY!) and I just closed on my first house (double yay) and I went on an app spree before the mortgage hits my credit. Here are some preliminary results of the app spree and I'm wondering if I should attempt recon with those nay-sayers or if it's not worth bothering.
--Amex PRG: approved
--Lowes/GECB: approved $5000 limit
--USAA Mastercard: pending
--CapitalOne Venture: declined (already have 2 Cap1 cards)
--Chase Sapphire Preferred: pending, then declined due to charge off from 2008 which has been settled and was determined to be fraud and removed from my credit
--Chase Freedom: pending, then declined, pending recon now
--CitiBank Diamond Preferred: declined, waiting for letter w/ reasons
I was contemplating apping Discover IT, or Bank of America or PNC Bank card, but not sure if I should call it quits or not before I start getting # of recent inquiry decline reasons.
Has anyone had any luck with Chase with a previous charge off? Not sure what's the deal with CitiBank as I've never had a card with them but it was the only one that was auto-declined online. I really need a high revolver, so if you have any recommendations, please let me know!
Personally I would garden. Your only allowed 2 cards with Cap1 unless they are cobranded then you can have more. Definitely recon Chase Sapphire Preferred. Always recon denials the damage with inquiries are already done. All they can do is say no. But keep in mind they could pull another credit report. Barclay did that to me. Good Luck whatever you decide.

I definitely plan on gardening for 12 months after these open apps settle down, but I'm really hoping to get one decent credit limit out of all of them. I was contemplating apping for the US Bank FlexPerks card, which I noticed you had in your sig. It seems like they can be pretty generous with CLs, but I'm not sure how sensitive they are to inqs and don't see a lot of data for average credit score approvals in Florida since they're not very popular down here.
Congrats
congrats

Make sure that when you're doing a recon to call the backdoor numbers to speak to account managers and credit analysts. Talking to Front CSRs are useless as they would stand by the initial decision 90% of the times. I would go for the IT card (was approved with baddies on report at 680 credit score) and recon all the previous CCs you applied for. Be sure to tell them to use your previous pull, if not then declined the HP.

I apped US Bank and got declined. I tried calling one of the backdoor numbers for them and got nowhere, said I had to wait 3-6 months to app again because the number of new accounts I've opened in the past 6 months that aren't reporting to my credit yet.
Called a backdoor for Citibank and was told I had too many inquiries. Not sure if I want to try calling again and speaking with another analyst.
I actually did end up apping for Discover IT after all, cuz I figured, why not at this point, and after getting the "call to provide more info" response, to my COMPLETE surprise, I got APPROVED! Only $1500, but hey, way better than a decline! They said I can ask for a CLI after 3 months.
Apparently I have to wait until the 17th for an answer from USAA (insane) and I'm still waiting for an answer from Chase, so fingers crossed at least one of them pulls through with a decent CL.

+1 Before you do the CLI in 3 months, be sure to check if it's a SP on your end. I've seen ppl get small increases from Discover and it's HP and I've seen ppl get SP CLI up to 20k with Discover, so YMMV with them
Congrats on the IT BTW. Welcome to the Discover Family!!
I've heard that US BANK is a tough one to get into (especially when you have alot of inquiries). I'm new to USAA myself and they approved me for 7.5K but I only had about 4 inquiries at the time. They may approve you as I recently read about someone being approved for 4k after getting a 30 day message from them. No sure about Citi as I dont have them.

I apped for USAA a few months ago and got denied and counteroffered a secured card instead, which I obviously didn't want. I'm fine with waiting the oddly long period of time for an answer, but I sure hope it's a yes. They were the 2nd one I apped for, so the report they have shouldn't have that many recent inquiries, and hopefully it'll help that I have bank accounts and car insurance with them as well.
I've had accounts with Chase for years and even worked there for over 5 years! I can't believe they won't give me a stupid Freedom card, let alone a Sapphire Preferred. CSP is going to be my unicorn it looks like since I finally got the PRG. Oh well, at least one is out of the way. Next inq will be for an Amex revolver, but with all these inqs I'll probably have to wait a while on that one too. I'm hitting the garden for sure!
I would also suggest "gardening" or NOT applying for anymore credit cards for a while. You have 2 automatic approvals out of 7.. Your track record is not looking to good. not to mention the 7 hard pulls. and the decrease in credit score that is about to happen.Yes RECON... but they will see the 7 inquiries.. and it might not be a good look. I wish you the best
