I went on an App Spree.
My last FICO simulator showed me that if I get a new card with a 30K limit I get a score bump. I decided with the upcoming move that I have I should do an app spree now, then sit in the garden for a long time.
I closed out a creditone card. (-$650)
I asked for CLIs from some existing cards. $2K and $1K. Woohoo! (+$2350)
I applied for a Barclay's Apple Reward Card. $5K. Yay! (+$7350)
I applied for a Capital One Venture One Card. $20K. Yay! (+$27350)
I applied for a Chase Marriot Rewards Card. Got a "we'll send you some mail in 7-10 days message"
I would like to find a store card or something to close that $2650 gap to bump my Fico score, but I have a feeling that I'm all done getting approved. I've been trying the SCT for a few weeks with no success.
I have to say that it's pretty funny. For the first time... I really don't need credit and I don't particularly want it. But having high numbers means that I can actually use my cards and maintain low credit utilization (so that when I do need a loan I can get one or in the worst case scenario that I actually do need credit I don't have to go looking for it).
Cheers! Even with the apparent denial, I'm pretty darn happy.
Try overstock, they are known to give out high SL using the SCT..
I've been clicking away at the overstock site for a month and a half with no love from them.
I checked that my contact info matched my CRs. I dropped a big ticket item in my cart. I keep going to check out and nothing. I have half a mind to apply, but if I'm not getting any SCT popups I'm thinking that my BK or something else on my history is an automatic denial from them. (My BK was filed > 2 years ago but discharged < 2 years ago)
You could always try a cold app...but I see your concerns. If you were approved for all those cards recently with high limits, I don't think you have a problem getting approved. My scores are much lower than yours and showing 3 collections with a 90 day late, all are 5+ years old, but I was instantly approved for $1800. This was my highest initial 'instant approval', even higher than my other cards.
I know a lot of people on here as well can speak and say Overstock hands out nice SL.
Well, you didn't have to twist my arm that hard. I was approved! That pushes me over the 30K mark in new credit. Hopefully the bump that is supposed to cause overrides the point loss for all the new accounts... but who am i kidding? I'm going to be in the garden for a looong time now. Time to start saving up a down payment and grind out a year or two with the cards I already have.
Within a year, I'll hopefully be have > 700 FICOs across the board.
Then it's house, HELOC, and cards with lower interest rates.
Before credit used to stress me out. Over the last month it's turned into a video game.

Congrats on the approvals. Don't however add more cards that you admittedly don't knee just to try to get to the magical $30K. It's a similar and whether you add 27K or 30K, whatever score increase you get will be pretty much the same. Remember every new app, inquiry and new account is lowering your score as well
congrats!
