I dunno, I had no intention of keeping the card for 12 months so the small annual fee difference didn't mean much to me. The Gold gives you free roadside assistance so I'll see how that works out for the next 12 months. And 15k signup bonus was nice. (Or was it 10k?) I don't remember if they offered that to me on the green. I'll probably cancel the charge card after I get my BCP next year.
I apped last night and received the in progress message. Called in to the backdoor number and was approved upon verification of DOB and address. I have around a dozen new accounts reporting within the last 4 or so months. Received the BCP and Delta Amex around March. In progress could go either way, it's just best to call in! I think you'll get it. Good luck!

Agreed.

Are you saying you got the feeling that if you had waited for the process to take its course you would have been denied though? Just for "verification"?
Honestly I never understood this "verification" business. Name, DOB, and address is all they seem to ask for. Well I already put that down on the application. If I was a crook filling out the application, what's to stop me from calling in and giving the same info? It makes absolutely no sense for companies to ask for a regurgitation of what the person (or crook) already put down and approve on that basis. It adds no security whatsoever.
OK I just applied for the Gold aaaaaaand...

Yeaaaahhhhh!
Going to try the back door number now for the first app.

No - I wouldn't have been denied, but the process would be longer. Before I knew about myfico and the "backdoor" number I would wait for the letter like the vast majority of applicants do. Even the CSR commented that it was good that I called in to speed things up.

Congrats! How long ago did you app for the everyday? Is it 24 hours in between apps for the same pull?

I called. They are very cheerful over in New Accounts! I imagine because they are dealing with only happy brand new customers all day long. ![]()
From what I gathered it sounds like my account got flagged for some additional checks in the fraud department. They had all the information they needed, so there wasn't anything incomplete in the application or more info requested. Something kicked it over to fraud though.
Based on what I know from working in credit card fraud at a travel company, my guess is that applying for my mom's Amex last month and then my Everyday today from the same computer is what triggered the fraud alert. Same IP or browser or computer ID or somesuch. (Of course I had my mom's permission to apply on her behalf, but yeah I've accessed Amex from my own computer and phone both while I was "being" her.) Anyway they should get that figured out. And if they decline me for some reason, well I think I said there are some good changes about to hit my report so a recon might be successful. And/or maybe it'll make a difference in approval now that I'm already a member.
I'll keep you guys in the loop!

I did them both a couple hours apart, in the middle of the same day. App #1 (revolving) was still pending, then App #2 (charge) got approved.
