Re: Approved for Citi DC but....

Agree with all above just stick with your income . You either qualify or dont. If they approve me for a higher limit with a low income thats on them and means they trust me managing that amount of credit. Thats why we establish payment history do we can show we are responsible with the credit given. Plus, id imagine with all the algorythms around they can more or less figure out your income by your spend patterns etc. Just my opinion, when appying for credit be honest and less problems in the futureSmiley Happy

So, I decided to pull the trigger and just go for it.

I was auto approved for SL of $1,000. Not too bad compared to my others. Lowest APR on any of my cards, 19.24% (compared to my other cards, this is low)

Now, my only question mark is... I just applied last night for the myBest Buy credit card which is serviced via Citi. After hitting submit, I received a message that says 'We have received your application and will need to process it further. We will contact you with our decision within 2 weeks via U.S. Mail.'

If it were up to Citi and I just got approved for one of their other cards, why would I have gotten this dreaded response when applying for the Best Buy card?

Oh well. I will take the success of the immediate approval for DC. Woohoo!

First, congrats on the DC approval. The SL is low, but at least you are in. Citi usually give CLI  vis SP with accounts that started with low SL.

Second, the second card could be verification, but also they can deny you. It could go both ways.

It usually will take less than 7 days for them to make the final decision. If they approve you, they will send you an email that you have been approved.

If by next week you did not get any email, chances are that they have denied your 2nd application. Good Luck

@Anonymous - How much inflation is not suspicious? And I got my VS as my first card 6 days after my 18th birthday which is now my oldest account so I don't want to close it. I use it every 2-3 months at Bath and Body works. And for the walmart card, it is a mastercard that can be used anywhere but I do shop there a lot. those are the only two 'store' cards I have now.

I would say add $30k to whatever you really make. So with the cards you have right now, go ahead and do the CLI's. then add the amount above to your income.

Lying about your income is not a good move IMHO. How is one going to explain that when they have to submit a 4506-T for a financial review. As a self-employed person, I actually state 30K less than my actual just in case I have a bad year.

I know plenty of people inflate the income for apps, but one has to accept the consequences of possible closure if you get caught. I'm not trying to be judgy here. I just don't think it is appropriate to encourage someone to lie on an application for credit.

Me either.  The whole point, without being judgemental, is to learn from our earlier mistakes and benefit from the experience.  You can't, in my limited opinion, do that from a platform of dishonesty.  Just go for the honorable road and rise from there.  Congrats, too, by the way.  My Citi DC opened about 3 months ago with a $2K limit, which is less that several others, but it can grow over time.  Just sharing my simple thoughts.
