Approved for first AMEX!

I got my first AMEX today! so happy! it was the green card. I have a year and 4 months of credit history, but only 4 months with credit cards which were all student cards! Once question though, is the same HP for 1 charge and 1 credit card on the same day really a definite thing?

Congrats! I applied online for my charge and credit card within about an hour. It was 2 EX HPs. Someone here was suggesting using a CSR for an additional app. YMMV

I understand the whole idea of "getting your foot in the door" with Amex, but honestly, I don't think it's worth it to get your foot in the door with a Green card. You should just try your luck with a revolver or a different charge card like the PRG (people say all the charge cards are pretty similar in "difficulty" of getting approved for).

Or, you could've gotten a basic rewards card from someone besides Amex to build up your credit and then come back to Amex after 6 months. The Green card is such a scam... you pay an annual fee for no bonus rewards; there are so many no AF rewards cards out there that you have the chance of being approved for.

Regardless though, congrats on the approval. Any approval is something to celebrate

See if you can get something better like the Amex EveryDay or BCE card on that pull if you want. Then in January, see if you can get a backdated card from them to help with your AAoA. My personal experience is that I was instantly approved for a charge card back in August and immediately apped for the ED and was able to get that with the same HP because I did it one day. Took a few days of verification stuff though but it was worth it.

Thank you everyone! And yeah I just wanted the Green card to get my membership. The annual fee for the gold was a little much, however, I will try and change it to the gold next christmas Now I didn't end up applying for the revolver yesterday, but now I think I should. Is it 24 hours or the calender day? Dont want another HP lol
