I'm a recent "convert" to BBVA Bank. I got a mailer in March with pre-qual code for their Clear Point Visa, a nice rewards card with one 3x & one 2x reward categories you chose quarterly. So I app, instant approval for $6100. Then in April they have a promo in AZ for $250 SUB for opening a checking account with a direct deposit. I have a branch nearby so I stop by and open an account and move a DD of just over $1k/mo. to it.
So today I'm in a branch depositing a check and the teller says "I see you have over $1k in direct deposits coming into your account, you should apply for the Rewards card". The Rewards card is a 1.5% rewards card for all purchases, but with a DD of $1k or more into a BBVA account it becomes a 2% on everything card. I tell the teller yes, I am interested in the card but thought I would give my Clear Points card at least 6 months to show responsible usage & payments before applying for it. She tells me that's not necessary and I should apply. She's very nice and not pushy at all, but I did figure she might get a bonus or at least a brownie point for getting me to apply. So, I agree, and she prints forms for me to sign while I log into my Experian account on my phone and unlock my report. BOOM! $6k instant approval. ![]()
The card comes with a modest $100 SUB for $1500 spend, and 0% for 13 months including BTs made in the first 60 days. I plan to do the SUB, and if I can get them to move some CL over from ClearPoints, do a BT.
To "cold app" for a BBVA card you need to have a branch in your state: AL, AZ, CA, CO, FL, NM & TX. But in March & April they sent out mailers with pre-qual codes for the Clear Points card and a bunch of folks here on MyFico reported approvals even if they didn't have a branch in their state.

Did they juke you over with the 32% APR? ![]()
Congrats on the approval, @DaveInAZ!
I banked with them from the late 90s to 2013, and my early experience with them was mixed but towards the end they seemed to have straightened out their ways (I eventually closed the account only because I was unable to avoid the monthly fee at the time).
In September 2017 I picked up a ClearPoints Visa and I have to say it's been solid - as soon as things simmer down with my promos and bonuses on other cards I plan to use it as my de facto Walmart card for the 3% rewards. ![]()
Good job on landing their 2% card... if my recent experience with them is any indication you'll have smooth sailing! ![]()
YOU...

CONGRATS @DaveInAZ on your BBVA Rewards Card approval, the Very Nice SL, and Thanks for documenting your experience!!!
I was approved for the card in September 2018 with a $7,000 SL and received an AUTO CLI of $3,500 after the 7th statement was cut. Monthly spend is $300 - $500 and I always PIF.
Congrats on the new approval!
