I've been pretty low-key lately, haven't applied for anything (even though I have been getting some great stuff in the mail - including the ever-finicky USAA, which made my day!) but I travel. A lot. So I finally put on my big girl panties and applied for the Barclaycard Arrivals card - got the 7-10 day message, cried on the inside. Immediately came on here to seek info on the recon.
I got busy and gave it a few days to see if a late-breaking approval would happen and it didn't. I JUST got off of the phone and was APPROVED for a $2,000 limit. When I called, the rep, Rachel (super sweet) asked me why i had so many cards opened recently, I told her I had issues with identity fraud and bad credit in the past and just in the past 2 years or so, was able to get credit cards. She asked me about my current BarclayCards reward card balance ($2,000 WAY too high, I know - I'm paying $200-$300 a month to get rid of it) and a personal loan I took out to help my little brother last year (which I just paid off in full).
After all of that - she then goes, "OK, here's what i can do, you have a pretty high limit on your Rewards card, if you want, you can move some of that over and we can get this card open" I said, that's fine, let's do $2,000. I felt pretty good at that point.
THEN she calls me back less than 2 minutes later - "you know what, you're a good customer and after reviewing, we are NOT going to move the limit over, we're just going to open a new credit line. Congratulations!"
I whooped and hollered - long story short, just call and try it. You never know what's gonna happen.
