I dabbled with some Star Alliance flights in 2023, both paid and award flights, and I am considering jumping ship from SkyTeam after 2025. (Not sure I really want to fly United domestically, though.) 50,000 miles for $3k spend seemed like an easy decision to dip my toes a little more into another airline's program. This was my second application with Barclays (I applied for the Arrival Plus about 5 years ago for the $700 sub and was shocked to be denied, but didn't know about their 6/24 policy for that card) and I wasn't sure what to expect. Needless to say, I was very pleasantly surprised with a $22,000 starting line!
They pulled TransUnion, where I had a 788 FICO 8 score an hour ago with one other inquiry in the past 2 years. AAoA over 10 years. I was at 4/24 with the most recent being Citi Premier 9 months ago, and the other 3 all from back in February of 2022 (US Bank Altitude Connect (now Cash+ #2), Wells Fargo Active Cash, and a BECU LOC opened as a consolation prize when they called to let me know they couldn't approve me for a 2nd card since my existing card is already $10k over their "maximum" total card limit). Not the biggest starting line I've had, but certainly not the smallest, and again I was pleasantly surprised for both the approval and the starting line. Also, what's with their aversion to commas? When I saw the $22000 I thought it was $2200 when I first saw it, just like I thought Wells Fargo gave me $3000 and not $30000 at first.
Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss, and Croatia all had great business class service this past year, now the tough part is to figure out whether to continue to credit those to my United account (where I already have Silver status thanks to Marriott) or to credit to Miles & More.
Edit: I do have to say that I love the fact that I was able to add the card to Apple Pay before receiving the card! Might be one of those times I hit the SUB spending before the card even arrives.
