Many store cards like Macy's have a maximum amount on what they give you as first day charge discount with a new card.
Just as a data point, once you obtain the Brooks Brothers card, they give you 30 days to make an initial purchase with 20 percent off; they e-mail the discount code to use with the card purchase and they don't seem to set a maximim discount limit. I was thus able to thoughtfully plan my first purchase with the card. During their 40 percent off Christmas sale, I bought about $3,000 in items for my first purchase. They gave me the full 20 percent additional discount, a full $600, for the first purchase with the card. They also give an additional $40 Brooks Brothers credit for the first purchase made using the MasterCard at another merchant. I also found that Imprint offers an immediate online card number so I had the card set up on Apple Pay as soon as I received the card approval online. The card really only makes since for for those who make regular Brooks Brother purchases but for those who do, there are various benefits including the generous 20 percent off the first purchase.
