@Anonymous wrote:AMEX hates me for past transgressions, but not enough to not do SOME business with me. They are wary of me, which is totally their right.
History:
I defaulted on an Amex card a million years ago. A relatively small amount (< $1000), I think. I did not ever re-pay them.
July 2018: approved for BCE with $500 SL.
January 2019: auto BCE CLI of $500.
January 2019: requested 3X on BCE, denied, got 0.
January 2019: applied for Amex Hilton: approved for $1000 SL.
June 2019: requested 3x on Hilton: approved for $1000 CLI (2x).
December 2019: requested 3x on Hilton: approved for $2000 CLI (2x).
So Amex is slowly re-warming to me. Hopefully in 6 months I'll get this card to 8K, then 16K next December. Maybe pick up another card with a workable CL at some point. I consider them a lender worth being patient with.
Data Points:
SP CLI
750+ Fico scores
Limited spend of $50-100 per month; PiF.
Congratulations on your awesome progress!
I also have 'history' with Amex (IIBK back in 2000) and they understandably kept me on a tight leash at first, but they did eventually open up. Actually, you're making faster progress than I did! (Some details can be found here if you're interested.)
My BCP and Delta Gold (since closed) were both opened with a $1k credit line, and it took a while for them to budge on the BCP. The BCP did eventually grow, though, and when I opened my ED they gave me $8k from the start (you could have knocked me over with a feather, LOL). I decided to go 'all-in' with MRs so I closed my BCP and moved the credit line to my ED, which is $17k today (I've never asked for more).
For what it's worth, I was also eventually offered an installment loan, which I took and PIF within a year, and my Amex Gold has always been solid with a spend limit that's very workable for my profile/income. Basically, I've been very pleased with them all-around. ![]()
TL;DR... hang in there, your patience will be rewarded! ![]()
Good stuff, Uncle -- Thank you. The post you linked earlier was one of the ones that gave me Amex hope in the first place. So thanks again!
Hopefully somewhere down the line someone will come across my post and think, "Yeah, my profile's not so different from his. I can do that too."
@CreditInspired wrote:.. IMHO, spending only $50-100/month is not going to get you large CLIs because AmX will feel that the CLs you have fits your spend ...
You might be right. I based my comment on another poster here (BBS maybe?) whose CL is about 50K (adds 5K every 6 months) with very little spend. MMMV.
Time answers all questions.
Congrats on your Amex rebuilding
