CLI and APR decreases

I've been pretty good about staying in the garden for the past 5 months, but an upcoming trip has me wanting to use my new scores to my advantage.

Called Discover over the weekend and they were able to offer me 0% APR for the next year. I did not originally get this when I got the card 13 months ago so it matches nicely with the Double Cashback promo that I do have. However, their computers still do not like my DTI (student loans suck) so I can't get them to even think about granting me a SP CLI or even think about asking for a HP CLI.

Called BoA today for a CLI decrease and got it lowered from 23.24% to 21.24% in the year I've had the card. Since I had them on the phone, I decided to go ahead and take the hit for a CLI and asked for 5K. They countered with 2.9K which just about tripled my old limit. Thinking about reconning but considering that I was a borderline approval 13 months ago, I'm not sure I want to go poking. Makes BoA my new highest nonstore card which may put some pressure on Discover. (I can be hopeful Smiley Very Happy)

Still debating on calling Chase for a HP CLI on my Freedom since I already stepped outside of the garden.

I would keep checking in on CLIs with Discover.  They're SP inquiries unless they tell you otherwise.  I have student loans that are 3x my income (thank you law school), but my payments aren't high because they've been adjusted for income.  Despite that high debt, I've received two 2k increases on my Discover card this year.  I keep my utilization at around 5% and have used the 0% APR balance transfer option to pay off some old college credit card debt.  I've never actually used my Discover card for an actual purchase.
