Capital One Venture Approved (But No E-mails and Automated Line Still Saying "Pending")

I normally don't post approval threads, but I'd like to mention this:

I applied about 15 minutes ago, and I got the screen that says they needed more information before processing the application.  I was a little disappointed but then told myself what the heck, I will wait out the 7-10 days.

Then within 1 minute literally, I got a call from Capital One.  The gentleman was calling from the fraud department and wanted to verify that I indeed applied for the card, and then threw a few multiple choice security questions at me.  After that, he was able to verify that I was approved for 15k SL on the Venture.

So, I guess basically what I wanted to say was that if you ever get a screen like that, you might want to be close to the phone that you input in your application.  They might just call you for security reasons, and they will be able to tell you within a minute whether or not you are approved.

EDIT:  The guy told me over the phone that I have 3 months from the date of card activation to meet my spending requirement for the sign-up bonus.  I always thought that the clock starts ticking from the day you are approved for a card.  Am I wrong in this assumption or is there something I don't know?

EDIT 2: I was told I should expect an approval e-mail by now, but no such e-mails have come, and the automated status line still says application is under review and pending.  The chat agent couldn't even verify anything for me either.  I don't understand what's going on exactly....

That's a sweet approval...  huge congrats!  screamer.gif

Hopefully some of the others here will be able to 'chime in' on if the clock for the bonus starts at approval or activation... I agree that having a little more time could come in handy!

Congrats! this is one of the cards i will hopefully upgrade to in december.   What are your scores across the 3 bureaus?  Do you have any other high limit cards?

My FICO 8 score as of today are: 751 EX, 776 EQ, and 779 TU.  I will evidently take a ding to my score on all 3 bureaus since they most likely have pulled from all 3.

My highest CL credit cards are the Chase Sapphire Preferred at 20.5k and AMEX Everyday Preferred at 18k.  I'd just have to say that without the knowledge and feedback from MyFico community, I wouldn't be here today.

I got this card mainly due to the signup bonus.  I plan to product change into Quicksilver when the annual fee comes due.

And thank you for your encouragement!

Re: Capital One Venture Approved

For what it's worth, when I was approved for my Venture card about a year ago, they explicitly told me the 90 day spending requirement started from the date of approval.

The troubling thing is... that Cap1's automated system still says my application is pending, and I have yet to receive any e-mails confirming approval.  Even their chat agent cannot verify this information for me, and suggested I call the Fraud Department.  If it is gonna take them like 20 days to get the card over to me, which certainly seems like a possibility from reading other posters in the past, that really is gonna cut the number of days I am given to meet the spending requirement.  What a bummer.

I was told last year it's from date of approval as well, I didn't see the email either but the screen said approved.  3 days later I happened to check my BULK/SPAM folder and viola! It was there- check to see if there.

Common sense would suggest that the clock starts when you activate your card since it's very difficult to meet spend with an account that cannot be used for anything but balance transfers (which don't count toward your bonus anyway).
