I applied for the cash reward CO card and got approved for $300. Is there a backdoor number I can call to see if I can get the CL boosted a little? How long would it take to perhaps get the Venture card assuming excellent payment history on this one?
Also, I want to apply for one more card. Having been approved by CO, who else should I go to?
Thanks!
I haven't done my GodFather impression in a while, so I'll do it again for our newest Cap1 member (if only you all can see my face when I'm doing this hahaha).
Cue the background GodFather music and AAAACTION!!!
Welcome to the Capital One family! Unfortunately, as the GodFather, I have enacted a few rules -- one being, customer-initiated CLIs are no longer approved. So, do not waste your phone calls requesting increases -- you will not get it. If you continue to call, it will be tracked by Cap1 and counted against you for future consideration as shown in the "Documents" link when you check your account online.
Level-1 CSRs are family members of my enemies who couldn't repay their debt to me, therefore, sacrificed their relatives by subjecting them to work as Cap-1 CSRs without proper training causing you much frustration and headaches. Don't fret, I heard your cries, so I have provided the Escalation number in the sticky so you can contact my right-hand men and women in the U.S. to assist you quickly -- I call them my Senior Account Managers.
Since you are new to the Cap1 family, you must prove your loyalty by waiting 45-days before you can apply for any other Cap1 product but I would discourage getting another as those Venture cards are run by some young guy named Al CAPONE (Capone=Cap1, get it? Bad pun) and are more difficult to obtain. You'll be better off applying elsewhere outside of the Cap1 family for a much better card (I don't usually give away such advice, but it's true).
I've given you another break by automatically enrolling you into the Credit Steps program where you will receive a letter in the mail in a few weeks informing you that you will receive an automatic CLI after 3, 5, or 7 months -- Yes, I'll do this favor for you BUT you cannot fail or disappoint THE FAMILY by paying LATE or going over your LIMIT within those months. In return, you can expect between $200 and $500 from The Cap1 Family.
Finally, be sure to go to the Rewards section when viewing your account online and "Activate" the special store discounts in addition to the long list of merchants that our family have dealings with -- they will treat you like one of the family with cash-back.
Again, Welcome to the Capital One Family.

CUT!!!
My sister is now part of this Cap One family, she too was approved for a paltry $300 limit. Which is good for since she is rebuilding.

That was GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!
Congrats on the Cap1 approval, but it is true, do not even bother to call Cap1 and ask for a CLI, it is a waste of your time!
I have two Cap1 cards I got almost a year ago when I started my rebuilding (credit score then was 583) I have a PERFECT payment history with them, and have run a good amount of $$ through the cards, not to mention raised my credit scores over 120 points since I was approved for these two cards last year and I have seen soft pulls by Cap1 on my TU and EQ report as recent as this month, I'm assuming they were doing their "periodic reviews" and I guess having raised my credit scores into the 700's still isn't enough for them to give me a CLI on either of my two Cap1 cards (500&750 CL's).
I will most likely cancel one or both of these cards in the next few weeks or months (have not made my mind up yet) as I am somewhat grateful that they did extend me credit when my credit scores were not that favorable. But come ON Cap1, really, almost a year later, 120 point increase in my credit scores, perfect payment history on ALL of my other CC's, Car payment etc..... and I can't get a CLI?????
Decent starter cards, but that's all they are and will ever be!

OMG, too funny!!!!! ![]()
To the OP... congrats! IMO, this is a good builder/rebuilder card. Treat it well, build up your history, and eventually you will be able to apply for a Venture card... or just about any other card that you could reasonably desire. Best wishes!
$300 CL is the lowest they give. You're gonna have to work on your credit history (whether building or rebuilding) before asking for any increases.
The only problem with that, ocboy949, is that Capital One doesn't approve any increases when you ask. Also, a $300 limit is their standard which is an indication they've placed you into the Credit Steps program where you will receive an initial increase after 3, 5, or 7 months.
Here's the scale (may vary):
If you have > then you will get
$300 > $500
$500 > $750
$750 > $1000
3 months > applied on 4th month
5 months > applied on 6th month
7 months > applied on 8th month

That's exactly what I got. "Credit Steps Program"
300>500 applied on 4th month
500>750 applied on 6th month
I honestly beleive I will never see another CLI on either of these cards, no matter how good my credit is or how perfect my payment history is with them.
I may be wrong and I hope I am but, I really do believe these starter cards are just that and will never be anything else.
That's the strange thing about Capital One -- there's no rhyme or reason behind their "periodic reviews", it's random systematically. Many members are reporting that they're seeing a series of soft-inquiries on their reports from Capital One over the past few months, but no results coming out of it. Meanwhile, some members would suddenly go from $300 to $3000 within a year, but did nothing out of the ordinary to trigger this. BTW, $3000 is the max CL for those accounts for "average" credit.
I think what gets frustrating is the accounts do not grow and Cap1 quotes the same script "...you're doing terrific...keep doing what you are doing...we're a conservative lender...you'll get a letter in the mail..." Kinda like telling someone who spends money on Lottery tickets to... keep playing and eventually you'll win something one day.
