This past Sunday I hit the six month mark since my last CLI w/ Navy Federal. For good measure, I waited until Monday and put in a CLI request for a CLI of $7,500, to bring my TCL to a nice rounded $11K and was told it was under review. I logged into my app Tuesday evening and saw that my limit was raised by $1,500 to $5K. The card gets fairly heavy usage (car insurance premiums, medical bills & pharmacy trips, car repairs, etc), so I'm a little confused at how every CLI I've ever gotten since it graduated from a nRewards secured card a year ago was $1,500. Is that the max I can get, considering the card type it used to be? Or will I eventually be able to get more than a $1,500 CLI every six months?

congrats!!
some profiles navy doesn't like and limits the 8k CLIs to 6k, some not at all, and $1500 is the first DP I've seen of lesser CLI's
when you're inputting the CLI, you're putting the total CL you wanted in the box, right, not the amount you wanted increased?
with a $3,500 CL, your max CLI would have been $10.5k, not $11k
it's 3x or 8k whichever is lower, but now that you're at 5k, you'll be able to go up to $13k max on the next CLI
hopefully your EQ 9 improves, you add direct deposit if you don't have it already to improve your odds for better CLI in the future

I already have direct deposit going into my savings account each check, and actually was able to open a money market savings once I hit that $2.5K threshold in my savings a couple months ago (yay). I did put in the total amount I was looking to get when I submitted the request in the app Monday night. I'm hoping now that my line is $5K, that in six months I'll be able to break free of this interesting CLI cycle. I would apply for another card since they tend to be generous with the CL of a second card, but none of their other cards have benefits that I am looking for haha. I'm not too sure about Navy not liking my profile, because I refinanced my car 2016 Kia Rio from Wells Fargo with pretty close to a 130% LTV about 5-6 months ago and was given a 7.34% interest rate.
Congrats on the CLI!
I would venture to say that as your scores improve and your file gains age they will become more generous with you. Just keep doing what you're doing and continue requesting a CLI every 6 months asking for the maximum of $8k, (keep in mind that the SP data they pull may be 1 to 2 months old) If they don't deny it, they'll either approve the full amount, or counter as they've done with you already. No matter the amount they grant, it's still a win. Congratulations on your CLI!
Congrats on the CLI!

Congratulations on your CLI 🎉
Congrats on the cli
CONGRATS!!!!!
I never get the full 8k cli either, the highest I got was 6k. Over time I built my 2 cards up nicely 21,700 on the CR, and 15000 on the platinum. I have no intention of asking for any more cli's. Those limits are perfect for me.
I know when my cl's were low they gave me low cli's, maybe thats it, ymmv
I remember a while back reading that NFCU gives small cli's if your cl is under 4k? I'm fuzzy on that number.

I got the letter in the mail saying that I had reached NF's maximum on unsecured credit, so that's why they only gave me an additional $1.5K. I really hope that now my card is at the signature level with a $5K line, in another 6 months they'll be a bit more linenent. Do you think it's worth calling in and asking for a replacement, so I can get a physical card with the Visa Signature logo on it? ![]()
