Chase CLI?

So one of my dream cards is the Chase Saphirre Preffered, so I finally pulled the trigger and Apped for the Chase freedom. I still have some collections that need to be paid off so I figured the Freedom card would be a good start to build a relationsip with Chase.. not suprisingly I was approved for only a $500 CL. Does anybody know how long it would take to even starting thinking about a CLI? whether it is a auto increase or hard pull.

By the way, I am OFFICIALLY in the garden as of today!

Re: Chase CLI?

A 500 credit limit I would get me an anxiety attack. My best bet would be to buy a product that costs around $150 every month and pay it off after they get some interest out of it.

Do this for 6 months then request a $5k limit.

Re: Chase CLI?

I do not want to dishearten you but they have been very bad with me. Freedom was my first card from a prime lender 2 years back. They declined my app 3 times before finally giving me a starting limit of $1000 (that too when I had to open a saving account with them with a hefty amount of money). Since then I have asked CLIs every 6 months and all that I have still is $2000, which is just higher than my USBank reward card whiuch I got around 5 months back! I am really pissed with them and Chase. I have felt that Citi and Amex are much better.

Re: Chase CLI?

I will be more serious when I post.

Ok this is what I did a few months back.

1. I applied for the chase slate first and got $7800 limit.  Immedeately after I applied for the Chase Saphire Preffered and got a $10,500 limit.

What I notice about them is they give a higher limit usually to your second application.  Same thing happened to me on AMEX.

I also have 0 baddies on my report, all payments on time and my oldest card is only about 8 years old.  I also lease a BMW that belive it or not raised my credit buy Many points.  So if you have an installment loan thats a good thing.

You mentioned you were not happy with USBank on your Cash Plus Rewards Card. Now that said why not combine that card into your US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card that has a good value?

I thought about that but I do not want to close the account and get a drop in my score. They have given me a good enough limit on my new Cash+ card which is much more than I need. I think the max I will be able to charge it any month will be $1000, so $14000 is good deal.

I started with a $500 limit on Freedom.

Make payments in full. Carry no balances. Use as much as possible.

Wait for the 5th month. It should become $1000. If you're lucky, $2000.

Don't apply for any more cards in the meanwhile. Improve your profile in general, take your score to the north of 700s (EX is the key).

Apply for CSP once you get there (ideally, not within the first 6 months of Freedom).

With a good score, you'll get a CSP with 6-7k limits (I got 6.7k). You can split some of it into the Freedom.

Remember, if you ask for CLI on Freedom, it's a hard pull, regardless of when you ask it. I'd spend it on something more useful (like a CSP app).

And while they might use a single HP for 2 apps, they almost never (in my experience) are willing to use the same HP for app and CLI. Dunno why.

Likely you know this, but you could reallocate your US Bank credit limits. I did it with no HP and US Bank was very helpful (actually it was their idea). Moved limits around on my two US Bank Visa Cards and my Premier Plus Line of Credit. Did it as I really did NOT need more credit. As you said it, there is a limit on what I can charge in a month (I get it).

Re: Chase CLI?

I just got a auto cli from 2k to 4k after months of having my freedom card.

I left a balance all 4 months of about 1500/2000 because i financed a new bed. So maybe they thought their limit wasnt big enough. You could try that but as always ymmv
