I have been doing a ton of research on the Chase Sapphire Preffered card and before I apply I would like to see what everyone here thinks. I know there are never any definites but what are my chances of approval for the CSP with the following stats? Should I go for the Chase Freedom instead, apply for both simulatenously? Any advice would be very much appreciated. Biggest road block to approval for CSP I see is not having cc with high balance...
Credit scores: 749 Eq, 742 Ex, 735 TU,
Annual Household Income: 165,000
Chase Home Mortgage 4 years old
Only 2 credit cards - Citi Diamond Preferred $1600 limit, Wal-Mart $2500 - $0 on each, average ago of credit history about 4-5 yrs old.
HELOC 25k/ used 17K - opened less than one year ago
No negative reports on credit
Authorized user on wife's AMEX Platinum

Any chance of CLIs on the Citi or Walmart cards. As you said, lack of a high limit card is potentially an issue. Have you done the Chase preapproval check?
Haven't tried for any CLI's yet, my Wal Mart Card started at 1k 3yrs ago and has steadily gone up. I tried the link from Chase that shows which pre-approved offers Chase has sent me previously, one for Slate and one for Freedom. That may be a sign... Should I consider Discover or Chase Freedom and give up on the CSP for now?
Whogavemecredit.com. Or creditcardforums.com. Both will tell you, who got what with what credit score.
Oh forgot to mention a Lowes card for $2500, I never use that thing so its easy for forget about.

The preapproval isn't 100% either way (you can be preapproved and get denied, and certainly get accepted without preapproval) but the Chase one is pretty good on the preapproval -> acceptance (if nothing has changed etc). So, much as I hate revolvers, try to get the Freedom for now. This will build a relationship with Chase, and, if you don't cash out, the UR points you earn can be transferred to the CSP (and thus onwards) once you get that card.
Call the GE Credit Solutions number in the backdoor number thread. Ask them for like 10K with your income and how old the card is. It's a soft pull and the worst they can do is say no. I think they are likely to give it to you or maybe counter. For the CSP I think your in good shape aside from the low limits... Have you thought of maybe getting an Amex card at all? Their limits grow fast and I think you are a shoe in for approval. A CLI on the Walmart will help, but keep in mind that Chase does not even look at store cards.
But, if you can afford a "wasted" HP (if you don't have a whole lot of other stuff you will be applying for) and you really want the CSP, you can also try for that.

+1. I think with the aaoa and income the OP may actually get it. He wouldn't be the first to get a CSP without having other cards above the 5k mark.
I would go for it right now if I were you
