I've been interested in adding one of the Mileage Plus credit cards since my travel on United has suddenly increased, however I didn't think I'd have a chance being approved since I'm at 7/24 until after May of this year. The only credit card currently showing up in my offers in my Chase online account is the Slate Edge (without a green star, or a "you're already approved" message), so I ran the preapproval tool and it returned all of the available cards in the tool - except for the Sapphire ones of course since I already have one - each at the lowest available interest rates (FF, FU, Southwest, United Explorer, etc.). After confirming my information and adding current income and employment once again, I submitted the application for the Explorer card and almost instantly received the "Congratulations you're approved"...for a starting limit of $20K @ 20.99% (lowest rate). At least they gave me a nice round SL, and I get my free checked bag again since losing Premier status back before the pandemic! The card immediately showed up in my Chase account and app, and my Mileage Plus account shows a "Checked Baggage Subscription - no longer sold by United" for a free checked bag I assume until after I receive and activate the physical card and add it my United profile. It was a double pull - Experian + Transunion
This is now the 3rd time Chase has approved my credit card application when I'm already at 5/24, or 7/24 - first with the Amazon Prime Visa (at 7/24), then with the Sapphire Preferred (already at 5/24 when applying), and now again with the United Explorer (at 7/24 again). Admittedly there were a couple of denials along the way for something along the lines of "too many recent accounts opened..." - including for the Mileage Plus Explorer card in the past - but it seems that under certain conditions, with a suitable profile, Chase may be inclined to approve when still slightly over 5/24.
someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think 5/24 applies to co-branded chase cards
Ehhh....This is spotty as I have seen it go both ways....

it's not a firm 100% 5/24 doesn't apply to co-branded cards, but many will be denied and 5/24 will be cited, not worst the risk, IMO, without DPs you'll be approved like the pre-approval tool
incredible approval @FICO-Quest, congrats!!
