As a result of looking for a BT card, I managed to get a "pre-qualified for the Citi Diamond Preferred" through their site on 3/29. I went for it and I immediately got the "we are not able to approve your application" type of language and immediately closed the browser.
My next option was to try for Chase Slate. I applied and was instantly approved for $1000. Knowing that my EX fico was 731, I decided to also pull a trigger on the AMEX Gold Delta and was also approved for $3,500.
Out of curiousity, I called Citi on 3/30 to find out why I was denied and if I could have a chance to recon. The rep verified my info and stated that my application was still under review. She stated that I would get a call back from Citi when the review was complete. Well, I decided to call back today to get my application ID so that I could check the app status online and to my surprise, the rep gave me my app ID and also mentioned that I had been approved on 3/31 for $4,000.
It went from Denied on 3/29 -> Under Review on 3/30 -> Approved on 3/31 and I never received any email nor any notification about the approval until I called. Weird but I won't complain.
FYI - the online "pre-qualified" had the opt-out notice and a fixed APR of 19.99%.
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.

Citi is known for upfront denials only to be overturned to an approval on recon. I been there n done that.
Congrats! on approvals and going mainstream!
I wonder what triggers them to change their mind especially when one doesn't call to recon.....
congrats
