Coastal has the same underwriter as AOD and many other credit unions. It is my local credit union that my mom signed me up for in 1987, and I left the account open for decades despite living outside of its area and not using it. Very grateful to my mom for this, because I love dealing with Coastal now. They were the first issuer to give me an unsecured bank card in my build two years ago, and also gave me a good auto loan and a 5.99% unsecured loan last year.
Unfortunately, they do require a HP when you request a CLI. I lost my gold spade making this request, but, it was approved. They offered me a $5,000 CLI, to $10,000. I asked if I could get more, and they raised it to a $7,500 CLI, to $12,500.
Coastal's cards are not so amazing that you'll want to join a bicycle club in a state you don't live in to get one, but if you do live in their coverage area, I would definitely suggest joining if possible, because they are really good to deal with.
