I wanted to share my unique experience with the Citi Costco Card.
Recieved this card as a transfer from the Amex in 2016. At the time I had had my 10k limit at AMEX reduced to 1k after missing one payment and going 30 day late on the AMEX so it transfered as 1k to CITI. I subsequently used it for the past 5 years and always PIF multiple times a month cause I'd max it. I rebuilt my credit after a divorce and other bad choices. It was my only card for a while at that time.
I've been desperate for a CLI for so long and constantly requested CLI's online. Finally after my credit was back to clean earlier this year I was hopeful I could get a CLI. I tried less than 30 days ago and was declined (mid 700's but lots of new accounts and inquiries). I had rebuilt to 65k of credit across 5 lenders so naturally I was upset I couldn't get this longest standing card increased.
I hoped to go around this card and applied for CITI premier less than 30 days ago but was declined. Today I applied for a CLI and noticed it was an option to choose how much I want, I don't believe that was there before, so I chose 9k vs the 1k I had open. I wanted to choose 15k but I thought that would be too much with all my new accounts the last 6 months so I went conservative with 9k hoping for 5k so I could use it.
I was approved for 9k, with only a soft pull!
