If you wait til this car payoff in September, and the inquiries that you noted will no longer be a FICO factor in September 2013, you'll likely see a spike upward in your score, moving you into a much better position to ask for CLI on existing accounts, and to then go on an app spree.  This will also position you better to consider a mortgage in less than 5 years, if you so desire. 

Earliest you'll be eligible for Social Security is 62 (assuming nothing changes with SS), so that also gives you some time as well.
