Oh and i obtained the score from Experian..

Well that score is useless. Get your fico here then if it's over 670. You should be good. But. That motorcycle liana could hurt. Medical default. No big deal

That's what came up for you? Looks like you would be able to get it now. The question is do you want to wait to get the 50k MR or just take the 25k MR (providing that you can spend the 2k in 3 months...)

Hi guys, new to the forums!  Hope to throw you guys some information and hear your thoughts.  I recently have been taking interest in getting a charge card from American Express, specifically the gold PRG.  I figured this would be the best place to get advice from others about their approvals with Amex or just generally discussing the matter.  I recently did a soft inquiry to check my credit and my score: 767, risk level: low and score rank is: 80%  It states that whats helping my score is 1) Never missed a payment 2) No maxed out credit cards 3) credit utilization is less then 16% 4) no installment loans.  Ive had two inquiries... 1) Verizon Wireless: October 2012 and 2) Chase on July 2014...  I currently have 1 account in collection that shouldnt be on there, due to an accident and the medical bill being with an attorney but they put it on there anyway.  Getting that cleared up and taken care of and off my report before applying, and also have a motorcycle that I defaulted on foolishly when i was 18.  Its been 7 years, was written off by the initial lender, but then rebought from another company... Based on the information stated above, what do you think my outcome would be if applying?  Thanks Smiley Happy

Welcome to the forums. I'll be blunt. The only way to know if you will be approved is by applying. Amex has their own scoing method that allows them to generate a Risk Factor score for every applicant. The system takes every detail in your credit profile into consideration. You may think something derogatory will diminish your chances of approval but that may be the least of Amex's worries. Just apply.

If I were you I would call in and try to negotiate and get the 50K offer. I was online looking around the beggining of the month and ended up getting the HHonors, on the pre approved cards the PRG was listed alond with the everyday card. I then got an offer this past Tuesday to get the 50K points after spending $1k, I applied and was immediatly approved. I originally wanted to wait till january for back dating and to also ensure I meet both spending requirements for the points, but I didnt want to drag it out seeing how the offer expires in December.

USAA Platinum Mastercard: $8000
American Express HHonors no AF: $12000
American Express Premier Rewards Gold: NPSL
American Express Platinum: NPSL
US Bank Cash+ Visa Sig: $5100|Chase Freedom: $7000|Chase Sapphire Reserve: $10000
Total combined CL:$42,100|Exp: 763(788Amex)|Equ: 759|Tu: 769 (04 May 2016)

Re: Curious about approval for Amex Gold PRG

@ kenny No i didnt do the preapproval yet.  I wanted to get the mistaken medical bill taken care of off my credit before I even did the pre-approval... Think im being over cautious?

@Jaylima thanks thats what ive heard quite a few times actually.  Some people get approved that have way lower scores then others and vice versa based on other things... weird..... Smiley Frustrated

I think you're being just cautious enough! It's smart! Don't ever doubt yourself when you're ensuring your approval later. Stand strong in the sea of people telling you to apply. lol I'm serious! Smiley Happy When you do apply please come back and let us know the results!
