Declined CLI with hard pull?

So I recently decided to do a BT to my Discover card in order to close out my Cap1 accounts.  I was a bit worried about the util on my Discover account after doing the BT, so I did a chat to see what kind of info I could get about that being a problem.  The CSR said it wouldnt be an issue, but if I was worried I could ask for a CLI, I asked if that was possible since I just got an increase on 4/30/14, she said my account was eliglble.  I submitted the CLI (HP) and it came back more info needed, called up the number and the analyst told me I wasn't eligible (CLI Declined), I asked if it was because of my recent CLI or a change to my report.  He put me on hold and came back to tell me congrats I was approved for another 1k (this account started at $800 4 months ago).  He said my account was eligible for the CLI but it would require a HP, I said I had already approved that and he said it was all set.  Great news, but I was surprised I was declined with a HP...never really got an answer as to why that was, or if the HP just hadnt been pulled at that point.  Either way though I'll take it!

Re: Declined CLI with hard pull?

I'm confused... So they originally denied you but then came back and gave you an extra 1k? If I have that right, congrats!

im also curious why you decided to close the cap1's if you don't mind my asking

You are correct he said it was declined then came back and said heres another $1000, crazy but I'll take it!  And thank you!

Dont mind at all, they were rebuilder cards, and they just haven't grown with me.  I've contacted the EO multiple times, and really haven't been satisfied.  This is especially annoying when a bank like Discover raises my new card $2200 dollars in just over 4 months.  I don't expect anything from Cap1 but at the same time it makes me feel un appreciated as a customer using their product.

Most likely I'll throw them in the safe and let Cap1 close them...they are kind of nice for Util padding Smiley Happy

Re: Declined CLI with hard pull?

good idea to keep the cap1's open for UT and AAoA purposes as long as no AF. My own experience with the EO and most I've read here has been positive. Would you mind sharing your credit profile? I'm curious to see what it is they are not liking in your profile.

Re: Declined CLI with hard pull?

My Cap One cards are $1500 at 1 year old... Up $500 from when I started.  The other is $750 at 9 months old... Up $250 from when I started.

Just because they didnt give me the $1000 CLI that Barclay did or the $7000 limit that BECU did doesn't mean I'm going to close them for not "growing" with me.  I'm more worried about them closing for the $50 a month that I put on each card... Lack of usage?  LOL

I used to that where I used to work. If I percieved people would give me a hard time on the phone for denying their CLI I would override the system so they would not make my day any harder than it was. Since the rep did not tell you the reasons, he or she might of had that same thought.
