Started with a plain Discover IT secured in 2021 back when all my credit was bad. 9 months later they unsecured the card, returned my $500, and set the limit at $1500. Where it's sat for 3 years and 11 days. Today I was granted $1000 cli, almost doubling.
I've asked her nicely repeatedly, given her the silent treatment for a year, whispered sweet nothings from time to time ... charged up, paid down, nothing worked. Until today.
5 months ago this acct was at 91.7% utilization. It hovered between 78-92% for most of last year. Since October '24 when I discovered I was wasting well over $400/mo. In interest alone for all CCs and loans I began aggressively paying down all CCs. This year I've started paying down loan balances as well.
this discover acct has gone down 10-ish percent in utilization per month since then. Same with many of my other bank CCs, I've been charging them up during the cycle, then paying them down to under the last statement balance instead of just using auto pay for minimums.
im not sure if this can help anyone trying to solve the mystery that is Disco, and I'd never advise carrying any balances that are not pure 0% promos, but I've added all the clues I could for this anomaly.
the only thing that I didn't do on purpose was have some old baddies get old enough to age off. Otherwise I made all sorts of mistakes willingly, frankly, and have been working on fixing them... and Ms Disco noticed, shocking me.
very nice CLI!
good job and good luck getting those balances down, congrats!!

Congrats!!!!! I'm in the same boat you were in I have been stuck at $500 with my Discover IT and this month makes it 4 years. I got the card back in 2021 (Mine was not a secured card). I can understand it as I do have a couple of baddies and was late on this card around COVID time frame. I have tried to get them to remove the 30 day late but they will not budge on it. My other credit cards gave me CLI's over the last 4 years. I guess discover wants perfection. I would close this card but its my second longest revolving credit line so I leave it open and use it to pay my phone bill which is about $400 then pay it off in full every month. Hopefully once my CR becomes clean I will see a CLI.

Congrats on the increase! I had a Discover for years (probably around 10) but was not much of a CC person at that point, so never asked for CLI. When I was on hard times, I ended up getting a 120 day late at pretty high util (around 80% I want to say), and CL at that time was 1400, it was at the point where they froze my spending but thankfully didn't CO or anything. I got on track with my finances and started buckling down to rebuild, paying off good amount over minimum per month to catch up. About 6 months later, my account was unfrozen, then I used it only on the quarterly 5% that I would purchase anyway, paying all off each month. Started making CLI requests and kept getting denied until about a year later after unfrozen, when CL was more than doubled.
So glad your patience and hard work paid off for you Congratulations!
Congratulations on your Discover CLI!
