First post here! First I want to say thanks to everyone who posts here!! Its super informative knowing what people can get approved for with different scores. I am definitely in my rebuilding stages. I wasn't fully taught about how to properly use credit cards and as a result I made a lot of dumb choices when I was young.. I finally got the hang of it but my scores took a hit.
So I have been checking the pre-approvals from Discover for about a year now.. and without failing.. I always get the "we could not match you with a card" message. Yesterday I decided to check, even though I said I was NOT going to open any more cards, and BAM pre approved for all of their cards.. I went with the miles because I didn't want to be checking for the 5% all the time.. and I hesitated getting another inquiry (I had 8 prior to applying -- I bought a car last August so I have 4 on just car loans).. I went for it with hopes that I could close out my Merrick Bank card (1,200 limit, anual fee charged every month, no CLI in the last 2 years) figured it the CL was at least 2k I would be golden.
I got approved for 10K!! By far the highes limit on any of my cards.
Here is where I was at:
8 inquiries
TU 654
EX 678
3 new accounts in the last year
~19% Ulitization
1 collections account for $150 -- which I plan on paying off
last 90-120 missed payment was a little more than 3 years ago
Definitely pulled Equifax.
