Happy Valentines day to me!
I applied for the DiscoverIT secured card in July 2021 with a fico of 574. I've never had a credit card before and had no debt at the time. I have one charge off ($80 from Verizon from a bill that I had to pre-pay, but that's another story). I put $500 on the card because I didn't know how things worked and I had just stumbled across this site. Luckily I was smart enough to take the hard pull hit to get a secured card that didn't have an annual fee. Once I figured out that you can pay your balance as often as you want and that it only takes 24hrs to post, it dawned on me that I could raise the deposit A LOT and take advantage of the cash back while also making it easier to show a 1-9% balance in order to eek out as many points as I could (I also did a lot of learning from this site). I maxed out the deposit ($2,500) and proceeded to spend more than that per month yet only show a ~1% balance come reportinging day. This is my 7th month, so they are right on time. They also threw in a $1K CLI. I am so excited I can barely stand it! I know this is like the smallest thing in the world to someone who was taught about credit and how to manage it, but I never was, so to me this is a huge milestone. Thanks for reading. :-)
My fico is now 649 and I'm shooting for the top category someday.
Congrats on your Disco graduation!!
Congratulations on your Discover graduation and CLI!
This is REALLY AWESOME! Accomplishments you should be extremely proud of....both the graduation of your Discover card as well as your wise credit limit assessment/utilization, which resulted in such a rapid increase in your FICO score in just 7 months of reporting. Just...WOWWWW! 🎉👏👏
Congratulations!

It's not a small thing. The first steps count the most when you're building or rebuilding credit, and an accomplishment like this is worth a lot more than somebody's 30th card. Plus, a $3,500 CL is pretty impressive for someone with a score in the mid 600s. So what are your future plans? If that's your youngest (only?) card, waiting 5 months will give you a bump as your AoYA hits 1 year.

Good question. Well, what sparked me finding out that I needed credit, discovering that mine wasn't good, and on to fixing it was wanting to buy a house (I really want a big garage where I can work on my motorcycles and cars). I've also recently thought about not just getting a house, but actually getting into real estate investing (maybe starting with a house hack).
I think that "nearer" term (however long that takes) I want to be able to get a house and the good credit cards (WF active cash, Citi double cash, etc). Longer term, hitting the highest score catgegory (800+). I know that I can only take so many hard pulls per year/2 years and that opening new accounts is a trade off, so I need to be wise with them and make sure I only apply for things I'll actually get. Deciding which and when is something I'm trying to figure out.
Congrats on your Discover graduation and CLI![]()
Nice, grats on your graduation and subsequent increase in CL ![]()
