Discover It Student Card Approval 😊
Good Morning Everyone, just recently got approved for the Discover It Student Card and wanted to know how long should I wait in the garden with this account before going after another Revolver such as an AMEX? I hear 6 months is safe but I wanted to hear from a broader crowd.

Without knowing anything else about your profile, it would be difficult to give effective advice. Can you provide details about your scores, credit history and experience, etc?

Re: Discover It Student Card Approval 😊
Ok, My current scores are Experian (692), Equifax (705), and TransUnion(680). I have an Extra Debit/Credit Card and Student Loans which is 21k. And recently just got approved for the Discover It so that's 3 accounts on my report. I have a thin clean file with only 1 Inq for each Bureau. Currently trying to build my history by adding revolvers and the AMEX Cashmagnet fits my lifestyle so I wanted to know how long should I grow this new Discover It before trying my shot with AMEX?

I would start with the Amex prequal tool. If nothing is showing on that, I would wait six months and try again. With your scores and profile, if you have a preapproval showing, I would say there's no need to wait - you should be able to get it now. And even if there's no prequal for the Cash Magnet, if you have prequals for other revolvers, you can probably try to cold app, but YMMV.

Re: Discover It Student Card Approval 😊
@SouthernCredit Sounds like a plan, I prequalified for the Cashmagnet, Gold Card, and Blue Cash Everyday. The reason why I was hesitant was because I heard that AMEX will decline for "No revolving credit accounts" so that's why I was trying to wait for the Discover to start reporting, but then again I'm unsure if that is actually true.

Re: Discover It Student Card Approval 😊
Amex has been the first card many people were approved for. I wouldn't worry too much; their prequals are pretty solid, but you won't know until you try. YMMV.

Congratulations on your Discover approval! I have the student card as well and regularly recommend it to my peers when they are looking for their first card.
