Since you can pound on the LUV button all you like without any adverse affect you should do it regularly. BUT don't be sad if you get a NO for the next 6mths. I think a PC or Combining accts counts as a CLI so that would put you back in the 6mth cycle.

You don't need a zero balance to PC. I was able to change my Platinum to a QS with about a $400 balance, but had 8 months of excellent payment history with Cap1.

If if you ever want to combine your cards into one, that's when you need a zero balance.

Ok thank you!! That will be my next move as soon as I complete the credit steps for my first quicksilver... I'm going to ditch the one with the annual fee... Since the one I had a pc on is my oldest credit line...

Do you need to max it out every month to get an increase?  That idea of maxing out a card is not so good to me.

Re: Early increase in the steps program after the 3rd statement question

I use it heavy.... Max it out about 3 times a month... And pay it off 3 times a month and it hits my statement at a 0 balance.... Works for me! Because of it I've always gotten larger increases...

No, you don't have to...but for whatever reason Capital One seems to like a lot of heavy use and several payments. So spend, spend, put the money back, etc etc. Many members here have found better increases with heavy usage, but it's certainly not a definite.
