Finally! Capital One again!

I was on this site about 5 years ago and it helped me get my score up and I ended up being able to buy my condo. But after I bought the condo, my score ended up going down again because I got in over my head with all of the costs of buying and was too far in to get out. Anyway...I ended up defaulting on Capital One and few other cards. Over the past few years I paid them off, but my credit was still lousy. I decided to come back on here and try to deal with the mess of my credit again. About 4 months ago, I decided to get a Fingerhut account and that sent my score up 70 points, but my score was still poor. I then decided to do a Credit One card and was able to get that for $300 limit. I then was surprised that the SCT worked for Boscov's, Victoria's Secret and JCrew. Boscov's credit limit was $750, but I immediately was able to get 2 CLI's and it got it up to $2600.00.  I also got JCrew up immediately for $500 to $1250.  BUT I kept denied for Capital One - I tried every other day and was only approved for a Secured Card until TODAY! I saw on an e-mail account that I don't use much that I had an e-mail saying I was pre-qualified for Capital One. I decided to try applying off of that link and I got an immediate approval for $300 (low, but it's a start). When I applied previously, it was also using my laptop and sometimes with Chrome, IE and/or FireFox - nothing worked, but when I applied today, I applied through my phone. I can't help but think that maybe my IP address and/or cookies/cache was causing me to be constantly be denied. I tried just a couple of days ago on my laptop and was denied, but through my phone today, no problem at all.  I also got an Overstock yesterday after being denied a month prior. I had to call in and verify some information and they said approved for $2000.00.  I also got approved for the LendUp card for $500.00. So, finally, I am back in the game. I have to say though, if I had this to do all over again, rather than apply for CreditOne, I would have applied for LendUp first...$59.00 annual fee and 29% APR, but they have a fair grace period and a great app. Nine months left before my one year is up with CreditOne and I will definitely let that one go. Does anyone know what happens if you close it at the 6 or 9 month mark?

Congrats on all the approvals! I wouldn’t app for anything else at the moment—you’ve got a good start. I would just close that Credit One right now. It’ll be fine—AAoA won’t be affected for a loooong time and Credit One is kind of...garbage lol

Congrats again and good luck on your continued rebuild!!

Re: Finally! Capital One again!

Thank you for the advice! I am going to pay off the CreditOne on Friday and then close it out and be done with it!

Re: Finally! Capital One again!

This is in regards to Credit One, Several people said on other websites that they got screwed by Credit One for canceling their account early. Some even said Credit One makes it almost impossible to cancel the card. As people would cancel the card only to receive another card from them again a week later. Credit one would even report on people's credit reports that they missed payments and ruined their credit. I myself know they charge you a $99.00 per year of using the card + $10.00 per month online payment fee. Alot of people recommending you to keep all your credit card(s) open at all costs as closing any card can bring down your credit score by -50 points or more. I learned that the hard way when I canceled my sears card.
