So, early this year I moved all my spending to my Hilton card, along with all but $1,000 in credit from my BCP, which brought it to $20,000. In June, I requested a CLI and was given $32,000.
2 months ago, I decided that I had enough points and switched back to my BCP. I got the idea that if I let it regularly get very close to its limit, then down to zero before the statement cut, I could force AMEX's hand on giving me a CLI, and it worked.
It occured less than 15 miniutes after I swiped my card for groceries, which is why I'm sure the artificial strain on the card gave me the CLI.
It's also my first auto-CLI from AMEX, though I've never been close to any limits.
It's a pretty small increase, at only $1,000 (bringing my BCP to $2,000) which is either a sign im near my overall limit with AMEX, or it was a weak reason to be given an auto-CLI to begin with. Ill see how my next CLI goes in October.

Given your current exposure with amex I think you are near the limit of what they will give you without wanting income verification. If they verify your income and like what they see then they can give quite a bit more credit. I'm happy with my current amex limits, so I don't do the 3x thing anymore since I would never be able to max one of my cards let alone all of them!

Do you think it mattered/helped that you paid the account down before the statement cut?
Just trying to get data points here...
