HOW DOES THINGS LOOK FOR THE NFCU

Hello

I am currently building credit. I didnt have any credit cards until Nov 2014 and because of my thin file most of the cards I applied for i was denied reason limited or no credit credit lack of revolving credit etc. So here is my list -

Cap1 QS (credit steps) $300

Cap Plat (credit steps) $300

FingerHut $900

JCrew $250

Brylane $500

Jessica London $250

Avenue $250

Express $250

AnnTaylor $250

I am waiting for my application into NFCU to be approved (getting in thru my son who's in the Army) and i was wondering about applying for their cc#. What do you think my odds are of approval? My intention is to garden until Aug but I would step out just for them and then enter again until Nov-Dec 2015. My scores are below and EQ & TU are possibly higher as util has been lowered a bit.

Your chances are good at getting at getting approved for a credit card.  Stop applying for all those store cards with low limits.  You have plenty 😀. Once your membership is approved go ahead and apply.  I'd suggest the cash rewards card unless you travel a lot.  Then it would be the Flagship.

Thanks. I have laid the store cards to the side I just needed some tradelines to get my foot in the door. My oldest card is from Nov 2014 will this hinder any approvals from others? If not who do you recommend as I would like to try for Discover IT or Citi. I have about 12 inq's on EX 8 TU & 11 on EQ

I'd wait until you apply for the NFCU card.  You are far more likely to get a sizable CL with them than you are with Discover or Citi.  I doubt you would even get approved for those with your number of inquiries and low AAoA.  You're going to need to wait till your accounts and inquiries age before any of the major banks will approve you.  NFCU is more tolerant of those areas.  Your membership approval shouldn't take very long and then you can try.

Re: HOW DOES THINGS LOOK FOR THE NFCU

My advice is wait 6 months, build on those credit lines and then apply for the nfcu credit card. In the meanwhile, let your direct deposit if any go into your nfcu checking account.

In 6 months you will be eligible for both the credit card and the line of credit, with generous limits.
