Never ever EVER have I gone to the Amex website and got a pre approval. I just said I was going back to the garden dang it a few beers later tonight.....
Congrats, lol....glad that courage in a can paid off! Enjoy your new card.![]()
@GApeachy wrote:@Brian_Earl_Spilner @Anonymous What about if y'all ran more spend on those cards starting now and make sizable payments (pif) 2 or 3 times before you request? Start ramping up for the Holiday(s) and perhaps that would encourage some $$$.
Reason I say this fellas is cuz the last cli on dh's card was this reason. Not enough spend; no sizable payments. That was last month. I'll see if I can find the denial to post the exact verbiage.
I put between $3-7k a month on a card or two every month and PIF. That's not the issue for me. The fees listed below are from when I tried out Plan It, but it's mostly AF for both. Top is Platinum, bottom is gold. I basically haven't used the gold since I got the Platinum.

Congratulations on your Approval..
Congrats on your approval!

Hopefully your next request will be a triple. What are the reasons given for cli denial? Is the denial on the Gold? or both?
My first cards with them were Delta Gold and the base Hilton card. I use them infrequently. Shouldn't matter though since Amex looks at you as a customer profile in total. I run $600-700 a month through BCP, $1000-1500 per month through Gold, and another $100 or so on Surpass, so while I'm not spending as much as Brian, I'm still running up to $2500/month through my various cards, which along with everything else this past year that I've improved, should be reason enough to start increasing my lines. I'm eligible to ask in December, so I'll be doing it then. If it's still a No, I'll ask again in March. In February my EX goes 100% clean and EX should approach the 750s or 760s. We'll see if that's a necessary cofactor in CLI approval along with crossing the two-year threshold, or if two years and a low 700 score is enough, by whether I get a CLI in December or have to wait until March.

Reason for denial is always score. They gave me two new cards with a lower score than I got the Delta gold, but they won't give me a CLI because of my score. Sunday will be 2 yrs 1 day since I opened it. We'll see if they really just needed 2 years to "get to know me" like everyone claims.
It's odd because there has to be a relationship aspect if they approved 2 cards with a 625, but they won't approve a CLI with established, in-house, payment and charge history. 🤷♂️

^^^ agreed. I've run upwards of $40k through my cards in two years, been given five cards including a charge with a $15k POT, but my four revolvers are still cemented at $1000 each.
Congratulations on your success with Amex!
Your story is inspiring. Thank you for sharing it.
Enjoy your new card :-)
Cheers
