IHG "approved"

I have to. Chase cards with high credit limits - Ritz- 32k and CSR- 22k (both with higher than usual balances for me 3k and 2k). I use those cards a lot for travel, my crafting hobby, and dining out.

I appled led for the IHG card as I would like the points (80k after 1k spend). I got a 30 day wait notice and was a little shocked as in the last few years I've been instantly approved  and with amazing SLs. Two days later the Ihg card was added with a 30k limit (yay). But the bad news is that the they shaved off of the other accounts to create that amount. I had them move most of the credit back and stuck with 2k as I didn't want to affect my utilization.

does this happen regularly? Can I recon for more... for a real credit line? I'm glad to have gotten something from them just a little bummed. My overall utili is 5%. My credit scores have sipped a bit but still in the upper 700s - not the low 800s as I've had before aping for new cards.

Re: IHG "approved"

Do you bank at Chase?

Income and DTI may come into play when they calculate your maximum exposure.

Re: IHG "approved"

Not as common with Chase as say BofA or Amex, etc..  Usually you talk to lending with Chase before they move some of the CL's around on opening a new card, but this does happen.. Happens all the time with BofA/Amex and a few others.

Congrats on your approval. I got a low 6k SL about a month ago for those 80k points as well, but I can live with 6k only for 80k point and a free night for a whopping 49 dollar AF waived for the first year Smiley Happy

Re: IHG "approved"

Nope. I don't bank with them, but I DID wonder if income had them concerned. with the other big  limits.

Re: IHG "approved"

My guess is Chase probably had to rely on their internal exposure calculation since they don't have a personal view of your bank income and expenses.

Plus if you have big limits with them but don't actually use those limits, they might be uncomfortable giving even more if it doesn't mean they'll make money on it.

Re: IHG "approved"

It's definitely worth it for the points. Weve gotten really used to our vacations. We're spoiled.
