Sallie Mae offers 5% on gas and groceries but it has a monthly cap on those purchases. Freedom has rotating quarterly 5% categories, as does Discover IT.
Another option for you would be getting the Discover now, garden that with your CSP for 6 months, then go for the Freedom since the 5 % categories usually compliment well. One advantage to Discover is they are usually generous to people with your profile.
I wish I had a Freedom card, but I need to wait at least 6-12 months before I app for it to avoid having to move limits around.
I applied for the Freedom,Slate,Amazon Rewards and the CSP in a 3week span and was approved for all ! With a Experien Fico of 650 and with almost 20 inquiries. So there really is no rhyme or reason to the way Chase makes approval decisions. Approved for the Slate and Freedom for 3500 and combined the for 7000 and closed the slate and applied for the Amazon for 2000. 2weeks later I hadnt even received the amazon card yet I applied for the CSP and was approved(called recon for verification) for 9000 ! By far my biggest credit limit. 2months earlier the biggest limit was 1000 now chase has given me almost 20,000 in the same month! Not to shabby..Thanks Chase!

I think there's more of an incentive for Chase to make the UW requirements on the CSP a bit more lax since they're charging an AF on it and it's a card that they're trying to market a lot more to people. Since it isn't free, there's more of a reason for people to want to pay on their CCs and not max them out. That's the only way I can think of to explain it. I think Barclays also runs on that sort of logic somewhat with how easy they've made the US Airways card to get.
Could be. But whats really crazy about it is I applied for chase last month and was denied saying i didnt have enough payment history on the 2or3 cards I had. And then they give me 20,000! Like I said..No rhyme or reason.. Great cards though and Im definately not complaining. Cant get anything from anyone else though.Amex,Citi, and Boa flatout denied me everytime.Did manage to get a Discover it for 1500 after a couple denials. So who knows whats up with Chase.I think she has eyes for me.![]()

One other thing I forgot to mention. I think with some Chase cards, they rely much more on what your internal score and relationship is with them rather than just what's on your credit report. Amazon and the Freedom I've been denied for every time I've tried applying for them but they had no issues handing me out a SW card, a Ritz card and an AARP in just the span of 5 months.
Congrats!
Wow. That is kinda Janky. I dont have any relationship with them ie Banking,Morgage,Car loan.. And Im sure If were to apply for those two cartds I wouldve been denied flatout. However I am a AU for the Marriot Rewards $28,000 so that may have something to do with it but Ive heard that its of no real significance in the approval process. But if it is I guess I would suggest everyone to find someone that has one and kiss their a%$ a little bit.![]()
Congrats!
congrats
