JetBlue app

I was going to apply for my first card in quite some time and when I pulled up the application it said something on the lines of:

Warning, American Express will end its partnership with this cobranded product around Dec 31, 2015.  Please be aware if approved, your card will be converted to a different product at that time.

Does that mean it will convert to another airline card like Delta, or one of their general cards?

I was trying to decide between this one and Southwest because I fly a lot.

I have two credit cards, one being seven years old and the other three years old.  I also am 28 months in on a 36 month auto loan.

Re: JetBlue app

Nobody knows for sure. Most of my other cards have just remained as is, but the lender backing them changed. For instance my Dillard's card used to be backed by Synchrony and now I still have the Dillard's card but it's backed by Wells Fargo. Some people think Amex may offer a product change within their portfolio, but I tend to believe Barclays will just take over the accounts.

Re: JetBlue app

I do not think it will convert to a different Co-Brand, like Delta. Most likely, it would become a general card like the EveryDay or Blue Cash EveryDay.

Before deciding on an airline card, which airline do you fly the most? Are you a member of the frequent flyer programs to gather miles already?

Oh ok that makes since.  I fly Southwest mostly because I live near a hub of theirs but I can connect out of my airport to JetBlue's network.  I am a SW Rapid Rewards member.  I have a little over 16,000 points right now.  I am also a True Blue member but I only have a little over 2000 points with them.

I was worried about the Southwest being a Signature card.  I don't know if I'd qualify for a starting line of 5,000 dollars.  My seven year old USAA Amex took five years to get that far lol (5,700).  My other card is Citi ThankYou College Student card for 3,900 dollars and is a little over three years old.  My auto loan is with Honda Financial.

*Was also considering JetBlue because I received a pre approval letter in the mail and it expires September 7.

Re: JetBlue app

Any special points offer?

There is an argument to be made that getting the card off the mailer is a good idea, just for the points. If AMEX converts this to another AMEX card, then you have that.

If the new bank also offers a sign up bonus in 2016, you can consider applying for that as well, presuming the account is not moved over to the new bank.

I am generally of the opinion that if one is flying an airline regularly, it is a good idea to get the credit card. The SW card is worth considering, but I would be sure to app from the Southwest Frequent Flyer page, follow a link from there, rather than directly from the Chase website. It's a superstition that I have.

This doesn't really answer your question directly, but you have some fun choices to make, it seems to me. Given the deadline on the AMEX, and knowing AMEX, I'd be inclined to go for that one first. Regardless of CL and APR, those are both negotiable over time, can be made to improve over time. The Chase SW app is going to be one shot to get it the best you can, so probably worth waiting if you are uncertain about your chances.

Re: JetBlue app

The offer says 20,000 points after 1,000 in purchases in first three months.  It says the APR is 15.24%.  It also has my TrueBlue account number on the offer.  I don't know if that means anything.  My Experian Fico 08 Score on this website is 757.  I've read on Credit Pulls that is who they usually pull.  I have 0 Inquiries in the last two years.
