Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind for the future. Well, then I might face a hit to my CR in a few weeks once all those hard inquiries get reported. Oh well, I got what I wanted out of the inquiries, so it won't be too bad. This is not my first AMEX. When I was an undergrad back in the early 2000s I got an AMEX student card, but then after some irresponsible behavior that card was closed by the creditor.

If I'm not mistaken, the advantage of getting several inquiries from several apps at the same time is that they will all fall at the same time, cleaning your CR all at once. Other than that there is 2 downfalls I know of, one being that all these inq's hit your CR almost immediately after, and the other one being that all approved CC's will start to post in your CR at the same time, lowering your Age of Accounts.

Yeah, my age of accounts will drop. Once I get the card, I think I'm going to explore whether I can get the AmEx people to extend the age of my account to back when I opened my old student account. That account would have been almost 10 years old.

It is very possible that they might automatically backdate your new AMEX card ~ once you receive your new card and setup your on~line account you should see "Member Since XXXX" on your account profile.   Hopefully it will show the old date, and if it does then your new AMEX ( and any future ones ) will be backdated.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you all know that American Express backdated me to when I opened my student account back in 2003. Thanks for giving me the information about that.

Hi - I read that you had an Amex back in 2003 that was closed by the creditor but you were able to get Amex to backdate your new card to 2003. I also had a card in 2003 that was closed by them. Wondering how you went about getting Amex to backdate to that closed card? Thanks!

Many times they do this automatically, especially with accounts that were closed within recent history ~ when you setup your on~line account it would show your old member since date.

In some cases people just call in once they are approved and ask the CSR to make sure their member since date reflects their initial card, if you have the card # it can be helpful too.

Re: Just got approved for an American Express Green card!

Here's my situation ...

I opend AMEX green card in 2003, zero balance, no lates, closed by creditor.  In 2007 my wife opens an AMEX Blue and adds me as an additional card member (or auth user, not sure how AMEX words this).  Anyway, her AMEX Blue card says member since 2007 while my card says member since 2003.

However, on my CRs, this account is showing opened in 2007 (the date my wife opend the account).  *Should* my CR acutally be showing the date opened as 2003 since that is the backdate for me?
