I applied for the Macy's store card in November (bracing myself for a denial because Citibank is not my friend) and was surprised to get an $800 sl. I was happy with that. Then I was reading the forums and found out that people are saying that you can ask for an increase every 31 days and that they are pretty generous. I also read to ask for the max of $25,000. So I did just that and was surprised to receive a counter offer of $2,500!
I have a question for everyone. I would like to get in the Citibank system. Last year I applied for the secured card and was actually denied FOR A SECURED CARD! My score was in the 680's across the board at the time, inquiries 10-12, uti under 20%. My scores and uti are a better now. I periodically check the preapproval (it's back on) and always get denied. But I have a couple of co branded citi cards (Exxon, Home Depot and now macys), do they help your approval odds with Citibank?
I'm interested in travel rewards. I'm pretty sure I'll never get in with chase. ![]()
Congratulations on your Macy's Card CLI approval!

Congrats on the Macy's CLI.
To answer the bolded statement, no. Having the additional cards do not nudge the odds for approval for any Citi legacy cards. While Citibank may be the main entity for all, each division is managed separately as far as underwriting criteria for their own products.
If you have an excessive number of inquiries, perhaps give applying a bit of a breather and get those scores a bit higher. Do you know what's keeping your scores low? Did Citi provide a reason for why the secured card was not approved?

I honestly don't remember but I think I still had a charge off showing back then that is gone now. I don't think inquiries was the main reason that they listed. However when I tried for the Best Buy card this summer inquiries was the main reason for that denial.
Yes I'm resolved to try an cool off. I get pulled in to apping when I see stuff on YouTube about approval success.
thanks for the info and responding!
Congratulations on your Macy's CLI!

First congratulations on your Macy card, it may be fun to watch U tube but the credit info is not worth it. It takes time to build credit. This Fico board has great info, good luck.
