Hello all,
I had an offer for the Merrick Bank credit card in my Credit Karma with outstanding approval odds, I did a lot of reading through the posts here and it seems most people have not had terrible experience with them. I really do not want subprime cards (I closed Credit One & Indigo last year after paying in full)
I've been working hard to build my profile and have some growing credit limits, but most of them are retail / branded cards. I've been having trouble obtaining prime cards in the Chase, Discover or AMEX worlds - so I gave the preapproval a whirl.
Approved with a 700$ limit that will double to 1400$ in 7 months. I'm fairly happy with that offer and even though it isn't prime, it's going to bump up my overall credit line and put me closer to some prime products, I hope. I've been stuck in pergatory with Capital One QS for the past 3 years at 500 CL, so I really am looking to build up my limits. Capital One refuses to up my limit, I pay my balance in full every statement - sometimes multiple payments a month since the limit is so low with my usage.
any insight into Merrick would be great. It's not something I intent to keep forever, I hope to use the limit as a stepping stone to my goal cards (Discover, AMEX BCE & Chase Sapphire)
Current Accounts:
Nordstrom $900 balance / $3500 CL
Care Credit $800 balance / $1000 CL (just had some vet bills, this will be paid off within the no interest period by Dec)
Capital One 90$ balance / $500 CL
Target $250 balance /$300 CL (will pay this off before next statement cuts to $50 balance)
US Bank $50 balance / $300 CL
Thanks!
Congrats !
Congratulations on your Merrick Bank approval!
Congrats on your Merrick Bank approval 👍🏼
Congratulations! I've had the same card for about a year and a half. Same SL of $700...They sure enough doubled my limit in the specified timeframe even though I rarely used it. Downside is no CLI since then although I only use it sparingly. Also, there is a 6.00 monthly membership fee that starts in year two. I've since improved my credit and have gotten better cards with no fees but I am hesitant to close it so it doesn't impact my AAoA's....I called for a waiver but no dice. I most likely will close the account soon. Otherwise, customer service has been good with Merrick!

Hi, i used to have that merrick double your limit card, it will double and is not a bad card to build with.
I have the target red card. it started at 300 sl and then after 8th month i updated my income and 3 days later my limit was raised to 500, i dont know how long you have had the card. i love the target red card and i wish it had a bigger limit because i use it a lot.
I never had a single issue with Merrick until they closed my card for not using it.
I never paid a dime in fees or interest.
Great bank for rebuilding in my opinion.
GL!
DON'T WORK FOR CREDIT CARDS ... MAKE CREDIT CARDS WORK FOR YOU!
@anik28 Conrgats on your approval! Whats probably holding you back is your UTI you have one card basically maxed out and one very close to 30% I would try to get an increase on your care credit and then wait the 7 months then maybe see if your prequalifed for disover or amex or chase or maybe even a new cap one card. Best of Luck!
Grats on your Merrick approval
Congratulations on your Merrick approval!! 👏🏼🎉🍾
