Your scores seem to be in the low 600s. I'd say wait till they are in the high 600s before you apply with Chase.

I got CSP ($6.7k) with $34k gross and ~$600 rent. 

I do have a checking account with Chase but it doesn't have big money.

My TU score while apping for CSP was 746, Chase pulled EX (don't know the score there but should be similar)

My first Chase was a Freedom, got $500 after being denied twice because of high util on other cards. It's now at $2k.

How long did you have the freedom before getting the United Explorer card? I have the freedom at the same limit.

My wife just got approved with $24000 income, 7 medical collections, 1yr aaoa, 670 Fico. Checked the pre approval site every week for 6 months with no luck untill 2 days ago! Applied and $1200 instant approval. Still waiting on the card....

Considering the income and credit profile Id say $1200 is a win and the approval itself is impressive enough. Definitely beats a denial, which many have experienced. Congrats to her
