Modest Capital One Quicksilver CLI

Hello friends!

This is likely to be my last CLI thread for a while... most of my cards are where I want them already and/or taking a HP simply isn't worth it (USAA).

I was actually a few days shy of six months, but I figured I would see if it would matter to Capital One and it apparently didn't.  They offered me another $1k on my Quicksilver Visa Signature and I accepted.

The card started out last March (3/2015) at $5000; it got a $2k CLI two months later to make it $7k.  In December it got another $1k bump bringing it to $8k and the latest $1k bump today makes it $9k.  Knowing what I know now I would have applied for a Venture last March instead of QS, but 'it is what it is' and for my spending level it's actually OK.

My last 'major' purchase on this card was back in February for $1800; since then I've only had one statement for over $100, with a few even $0.  One thing I've learned (or at least I think I have) is that Capital One doesn't "count" balance transfers the same way they do regular charges when it comes to usage;  several months back I had a BT on my QS MasterCard (quickly PIF) that was $3k yet they denied the CLI on that one due to "lack of usage".  I have a recurring charge set up for the QS MasterCard, and it's now kept in the SD only for AAoA purposes (it's nine years old).

I also know that there's a chance I could have waited for a larger amount, but in my case with minimal usage I suspect I did better by taking what they offered now and restarting the "clock" for the next CLI in six months.  Smiley Wink

Unrelated to the CLI, I'll add that the QS Visa has now added two more BT options... one for 18 months (same 3% fee as 12 month option) and a no-fee option but at the purchase APR.  This is the first I've seen these last two options on this account... maybe they noticed my scores have improved the last few months?

In any case, I'm still extremely pleased with Capital One... unless something drastic happens I'll always have one in my wallet.  (LOL)  Smiley LOL

Big congrats Uncle B! Unlike you I'm itching to hit up USAA. lol

As you say, Capital one will always be in my wallet as well. I've never had a single issue with them in the 9 yrs I've had the card.

People complain about them not reducing APR's.  APR's only matter too me on auto, home and the like.

Plus they've sent me some crazy good offers to use their check's! Though I plan to never use them. It's great to have the option.

Thanks so much!  Smiley Very Happy

Good luck when you hit up USAA... from what I have read they really make the HP worth it in many cases.  In my own case they gave me an auto CLI for $1400 back in the fall, and with my modest income I don't think they would be as 'generous' to me as they have been with others.  I love that USAA has no-fee advances to a USAA checking... in a pinch that makes them "worth it" right there!  Smiley Wink

As for Capital One, I'm hoping the new BT offers I noticed today indicates that they see me as more 'desirable' than in the past... like you, I don't plan to use it but it's sure nice knowing it's there!  Smiley Happy

Congrats UncleB!  Cap1 although I use to hate them... I have grown quite fond of them recently lol.. Love/Hate company.  I really should give them more use sicne I have a 34.5k QS CL, but try to give them around $100 a month sped.  Enjoy the extra 1k... Nice to see balance transfer offers as well!

Hey UncleB.

Congrats on the increase.  You've had a good run the last couple of months.  There comes a time for all of us that it's good to sit back and let our profile age and be satisfied with what we've accomplished so far.  I have two goals that I hope to achieve and one includes getting a credit card approval with PenFed and the second a mortgage, but the later is not looking to become a reality until fall 2017.  I'm glad that things have worked out for you the way you wanted.  Enjoy gardening....and continue to keep us honest when we need it.

I know just what you mean by "love/hate"... they have definitely evolved as a company and like you I'm quite pleased with what they have become.  They are one of the few lenders that has suitable products for nearly everyone.  I admit there are still a few things I would change if I were "CEO for a day" but all-in-all I've been very happy with them!

P.S.  Very nice signature you have yourself there!  Smiley Very Happy

Thanks so much Kaykay!  Smiley Very Happy

You're exactly right... the last month or so has been fairly hectic (more so than I had even anticipated) and I am very much looking forward to things settling down a bit!

Good luck on your own PenFed application... when the time is right I'm sure they will welcome you with open arms.  Until that time, we can hang out together in the garden... I'm looking forward to a no-app drama-free time there myself!

Thanks again for your kind works and encouragement!  Smiley Wink
