NFCU Approval 15K astonished, in disbelief and a question.

I dont think I can belive it until my card actually arrives. I was just approved for a 15K cash rewards with NFCU, I've been with them for about 6 months with a Secured card at $500 and a SSL using the strategy I found here with a bank account through them that I use just for my bills account. My FICO tracking with them which uses Equifax says 696 and started with them back in August (only 6 months with them) at 620. But they pulled TU for this app which I'm not sure what it was at for their pull by MYFICO says TU is at 639. This is my highest limit card I've ever had ever. I had a bunch of bad happen in 2016 and I've been trying to recover from that MYFICO started at 604 back in 01/19 but I remember the 550's according to Credit Karma way back in 8/18.

Still have a few scattered baddies with Kohl's, Conn's, OneMain, Barclay, and a few medical bills only reporting to Experian

So I wanted yalls opinion, should I close all of my low limit secured cards, or would closing that many accounts look real bad? I'd be closing 5 accounts. All the secured ones $250 and under.

I would recommend closing any predatory secured card that has high APR, monthly/annual fee.

Congrats on your NFCU cashRewards approval and nice SL! Go ahead and close the low limit secured cards, starting with the one with the highest fees. In 91 days and 3 statements, you should be good for another NFCU card. Smiley Very Happy

Re: NFCU Approval 15K astonished, in disbelief and a question.

I would close these:

2-19 Applied Bank $200 Secured

2-19 GreenDot Platinum $200 Secured

2-19 GreenDot Primor $200 Secured

2-19 Open Sky $200 secured

12-18 Self Lender loan of $500 paid off early 9-19, now secured card @$250

Keep this one. It will graduate

1-19 Discover $1k secured

This one will grow fast with soft pulls.

1-19 Commenity $300 unsecured, CLI to $620 1-20

Also since you have a car loan I do not think the SSL is helping your score. You only need one loan to boost your FICO score. It may be helping you Navy profile though.
