Hello All,
Question for those with some experience out there. I have three NFCU Credit Cards (the Flagship, the Amex More Rewards, and the Platinum). I went for a CLI on the Amex Rewards because it's been over 6 months and why not! ![]()
I received a small increase of $400 but the statement of change letter I received says "You've reached Navy Federal's maximum unsecured credit limit........HOWEVER, we have increased your credit limit to $19,400. I'm truly scratching my chin. Does anyone know what the maximum unsecured credit limit is? And...if I have reached it, why would they give me any increase? Anyone out there with some experience that could explain this a little further?
Thanks in advance!
That's boilerplate that the sum total limit across all of your NFCU cards including the $400 CLI is now at the maximum amount they are willing to extend to you right now. As economic conditions improve and your own individual credit profile improves (income, payment history, etc.) they will at some point increase that figure and you will be able to get additional CLIs.
It's not an uncommon message in response to a successful CLI request when NFCU grants some, but not all, of the requested amount.
Your internal limit should be $50k. How do I know? When you go on the mobile app to request a CLI, it will literally show you the minimum and maximum dollar amount you can request. With a BK on file, I think they're really treating you good considering the limits you have on the 3 cards.
Oh I'm very happy with NFCU and they are also my credit union as well where I keep my checking/savings so no complaints from my end. Just trying to understand the verbiage for future reference.

Well that's the theoretical limit, but not everyone qualifies for a CL that high.
