Re: NFCU new member question

So here is a quick update that illustrates what an epic event this was for me. My 3 scores last month were in the 630-637 range. Then USAA reported my mid month balance which was like 85% Util and my scores dropped as low as 587.  This month with the USAA paid to 3% and the new NFCU reporting a $6K limit, my scores are Exp 666, EQ 676 so far. TU has not updated with the new USAA balance or NFCU TL. I would imagine it to be somewhere near the other two within the next week or so. I am wondering if it is now safe to apply for my VA refinance or if I should try to get one more card first to see if the score goes up any more.  I was going to try an Amex green but I talked to them first and found out that I am on their black list from an old corporate card back in 2003. Funny they never pursued collections or reported it.

Re: NFCU new member question

OK, I am done with cards now. I got the congrats message on the Barclays site and hit the green button. I got $1K CL for the rewards card. Hopefully now having 3 cards will do all that I can do for points now other than let them age. Do I have to use all 3 of them every month or just carry a small balance on the NFCU then try for an increase in 6 months? I was thinking about paying all of my monthly bills with it then paying it down to 2-5% at the end of the month. That way I could also get the cash rewards on about $1700 worth of bills.

I had a car die today and in the process of freaking out about how to pay for a new transmission, I applied for the NFCU Cash Rewards Visa, even before waiting on my Util to come down below 50%. Within 30 seconds, I was approved for $6K. I think the rate was around 11.5 plus prime. Not too good, but I am so thankful for these guys, The limit itself should boost my score a good bit considering that i am coming from an 11 month old secured MC from USAA with a $300 llimit. These guys are amazing. My EQFX is 637 but that is from EXP.3 service reporting, a "Plus" score. This is with 5 paid CC collections and 1 paid repo, 5+ years old, as well as 6 unpaid medical collections, 2 years old. On the bright side, I have 2 paid installment loans and two that i am still paying. $$ range from $1k to 10K.  Also a perfectly paid mortgage for nearly 5 years and the Secured USAA Mastercard $300 (Though only EQFX shows it a s secured). All said, I guess it is do able and I thank you all for your advice. What to do next I wonder?

Congrats on your new card. Isn't NFCU great I think the loyality factor is a business model other banks just underestimate. Way to go!
