When I started my credit journey last year, I was incredibly discouraged. I am old school so I paid everything with cash. Unfortunately, this has the unfortunate side effect of getting you in trouble if you ever have financial emergencies. Finally, last year I was humbled. It was time to replace my BMW with another one. I wanted an electric BMW so I called in knowing all the sales agents were gonna trip over themselves to attend to me. Nope. I did not get one call back. When a car salesman does not return your call, your credit is bad. Really bad.
Found out my credit score was 480. Humiliating.
I immediately signed up here and read everything I could. I treated the advice I found here like gospel. It helped a lot. My score has improved from 480 to 670 Experian. 705 Transunion. Experian 698
I started off with Capital One and Discover Secured. Next I got my Amex Delta Gold. The Amex was one of two goal cards. The other goal card was a Chase. Any Chase. I knew about the 5/24 rule So I estimated I would get one in 2 years after I was done with my app spree. Today I saw a preapproval for 3 of Chase's cards. I was shocked. I knew I still had collections and lates but what da heck, you only live once. I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. My jaw almost hit the floor when I was approved with a credit line of $13,000. To say I did the happy dance would be an understatement!
Data Points: EX 670. Transunion 705. EQ 698. 3 medical collections. One 60 day late from last year. Average age: 8. Oldest account; 15yrs. Credit mix: 4 revolving. 2 installments: One mortgage, one BOA line of credit.
The one advice I would give anyone looking to get Chase is to get the Credit Journey app! This app is invaluable. It helps Chase track your credit progress and when ready, give you credit card offers based on your credit growth. Almost a no brainer. You look there. No card. Don't apply. You see a card, it is as close to a guarantee as it will get. I have had the app for less than 3 months. And no, you don't have to be a Chase customer to get the app. It is free and available to everyone.
Congrats on the approval.
I had this app, but it's another vantage score and didn't really need another one. As far as their "offers" I have gotten 2 and I am like a gaziilion/24 rule, so I don't believe the "offers" to be solid

Of course, the 5/24 rule still applies. However, there is a thread here where someone was over the 5/24 rule but used the app's preapproval to get approved. YMMV
Oh, I must add, I ran thousands through my cards and always paid in full. My utilization was at 1%. I am sure that helped. I have already set up autopay to always pay off the balance and will now use the CSP as my primary driver. Let the fun begin.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing your story and dp's!
Congrats on the approval and getting in with Chase!!! Oh, the feeling when you achieve a goal! It's wonderful, isn't it?
Congratulations and welcome to the family!!!

I am also a gazillion/24 and was recently green marked for my 1st biz card. I didn't believe it either. Until I did, or, at least enough to take a chance. Approved.
Sorry to hijack, 007. Congratulations on a great approval!

Great Job!!!
Very inspring story, thanks for sharing and congrats on the approval! Welcome to the family
Congratulations on a great rebuild story! I'll just add that I've had Credit Journey for a few years and have been a banking and credit customer as well. Sadly, I never get offers, but in-branch pre-approvals (now that you're a Chase credit customer) are another route for thosing seeking a Chase card.
