Old navy (shopping cart trick?)

I don't know if it's considered a shopping cart trick but I had this happen to me today! I have shopped at Old Navy online before and didn't get a preapproval but I have had a recent jump in my credit score (from a collection coming off l, 612 to 663) so I don't know if that had something to do with it. But I was so shocked to see the preapproval! I accepted it. I have quite a few inquiries (15), but only one synchrony card (Walmart ). I always keep it well below 30%, did that help me to get a preapproval? only other synchrony cards I would be interested in are JCPenney and Amazon. I wonder if the same thing would happen? Btw they asked for my whole Social Security number but I have not gottten an alert that my credit was pulled yet. I think it was a soft pull. I usually get an alert instantly. Anyway I just wanted to share!

Re: Old navy (shopping cart trick?)

SCT is Comenity, not Syncrony.

If they asked for your full social then it is a hard pull on TU. I just apped and approved with them. It takes a few days but it will show. Congrats on the line. Any data points?

Re: Old navy (shopping cart trick?)

Someone else posted about an ON preapproval at checkout late last year.

So I guess it's something Synch is experimenting with.

Re: Old navy (shopping cart trick?)

Well, curiosity killed the cat... but not my AAoA because I did NOT take it. I just wanted to report that I got this same message at checkout. I haven't shopped at Old Navy in literally years. I just read about this and wanted to see if I could get it as a data point. I have 2 other Sync cards. Cool to know this is legit though. By the way, if someone gets adventurous and takes this offer from the website, please report back if it was indeed a hard pull. Thanks in advance.

Not necessarily.   When Dillards was still under Sync, there were reports of SCT working for that card.

As for the HP on TU, you probably are correct about that.   OP should keep an eye out.

Re: Old navy (shopping cart trick?)

I received an email this morning saying pre-approved for ON.

Nope.  No thanks.  No HPs until AFTER mortgage is final.

Re: Old navy (shopping cart trick?)

I obtained my ON card via SCT in March. I don't see a HP on my report.
