I did get too greedy and apped for the Promise card which was turned down. Not sure why yet but I might call in a day to ask reconn.

Regarding the Promise Visa denial, PenFed likes to see repayment history with them before extending multiple credit products. Often, denial is based on two reasons:

1. MUST ESTABLISH SUFFICIENT REPAYMENT HISTORY WITH PENFED BEFORE ADDITIONAL CREDIT IS GRANTED

2. Presently have maximum open-end credit

In your case you have an auto loan and the Pathfinder Rewards card. So if Penfed thinks they are granting the most credit they could for your current EQ FICO 9 score they wouldn't approve any other credit cards. Give it some time; in six months and hopefully a higher EQ FICO 9 score you'll be approved.
