Re: Question about applying for a new card

Hello,

I am looking for advice. Okay so I got the bug to apply for a new card.  I checked the pre-qualification for Citi and Chase and I got the Double Cash and Freedom as pre-qualified cards. I really want the Freedom because of the 200 dollar cash back sign up bonus but I have one question.

I currently have these cards:

Discover It - 2k

American Express BCE - 2.2k

Citi Foward for Students- 5.1k

Bank of America Bankamericard Cash Rewards- 1.5k

The only thing that gives me hesitation is that I have a pretty high balance on the BCE. I'm using 75% util on that card but the rest of the cards have no balances.

Should I wait to apply to get a greater chance of approval? Or go for it?

I have two inqs falling off in August which would leave me with 1.

Scores are TU:725 EXP:729

Thanks!

Congrats on the Chase Freedom, you will enjoy the sign up bonus and 5% on rotating categories. I wouldn't waste a hp on the Citi DC card. if you still have the bug for apping, I would suggest taking a hp for a cli on your bank of america card if you have had it for more than 6 months. I started at a 1k limit and 6 months later I took a hp (EQ) for 4.5k increase (I asked for 10k). Just remember to aim high and they will counter if not approved for your request. Good Luck and cheers to your freedom!

Thank you.

What card would you recommend would complement my current line-up?

I really do like Citi, as I do part of my banking and are my highest limit card so far.

I was thinking DC or ThankYou Premier next year.

Should I just garden for a few months ?

Thanks.

App for Chase first.  Then go for Citi.  The 75% shouldn't be a factor if it's on one card.  I had one card reoprting higher UT and got approvals.

Double Cash or Quicksilver to catch any spend that you don't have covered for >1% already. DC gets .5% better rewards than QS for everything and you can get it with 1 HP. Quicksilver comes with a $100 bonus after spending $500 but will require 3 pulls to obtain. They both offer soft pull CLIs.

I would also look at the Sallie Mae for gas, groceries, & book stores (Amazon). Use your BCE or Cash Rewards when/if you max out the $250 monthly caps on gas & groceries.
