SURPRISING DISCOVER IT APPROVAL!

I cant beleive it,  I just got approved for DISCOVER iT.  I have one Cap 1 partially secured card ( 1 month old, havent even paid first statement) Fico  score not even up yet.  I was really just trying to apply for discover secured card.  Checked out which cards I qualified for and the discoveriT came out. ( I knew you should apply for normal discover iT, they would deny it and THEN offer secured card).  Well, to my surprise, I was immediately approved for the discover iT credit card.  Got two info. screens and then  approval screen.  I got one HP for  EXP.  Dont know APR or CL yet, but it is the cash rewards card.  You can tell from this approval that Discover likes new, thin files with no baddies on them.  I hope their on line approval is definite, any advice on this? Can I celebrate already?

Do you know if on line approval is final?

If they put 'approved' online then it is final. Congrats.

Me and DW both started with BoA secured and Discover. Even when my DW got stuck at $500 for 463 days we liked the card, started paying several times a month, going near the limit, not using the card, asking for APR reductions, got 0% again for 12 months (not much use at $500), only using it for 5%, now is at $3,000 and 10 months left at 0% for purchases.

Im a bit confused, is discover it a prime card?  I had heard it was kind of difficult to obtain, but now it seems like a starter card.  Im surprised I was approved, can anyone shed some light on this?  Im very happy but confused. I was not expecting this.

Yes, they are considered a prime card. It is not hard to get if you have a clean file (even if it is new without FICO score).

Not every lender give the first card. I started my credit journey without knowing about this forum. My first try was Cap1 and got 1 credit pull on each bureau for a denial. Then I read about credit cards and lenders here, and between my DW and me we have never received a denial after learning here.

I learned that Chase and Barclay, don't want to give a card to someone without history. Discover has no problems. Amex some times, but is better to have a FICO score (we got approved for PRG with 50k bonus). Citi and Cap1 for some products. Cap1 after 12 months they are offering good APR and I know that the limit will be good.

What I learned about the 'credit game' is that time is your friend, it will help to get better APR and limits. Also it is good to ask. By calling we were able to recon a denial (DW Freedom), recon SL (Sallie Mae), remove AF (BoA secured), lower APR (BoA, Discover and DW got 0% promo with Discover), got Amex to backdate my cards (still sad that this is no longer possible).

Good luck.
